Just curious if anyone is planning to go. I'm not a big fan of war, but the planes they use are pretty neat. Haven't been to an air show in years, and this one is free. I'm sure Nathan will have fun :)

Looks like the Golden Knights will be jumping too.

Anyone know how far this is from the Global Transpark? I've always wanted to see how much autocrossable area there is out there and if it's still lying dormant.

Mike,

My Dad and nephew are going, I would be but I have other commitments. The GTP is in Kinston and is only about another 30 - 45 minutes past Goldsboro. Just follow the signs for the Kinston Regional Jetport.

Mike the distance to the GTP is between fifteen and twenty miles. As best as I can recall, I never went to the GTP from the direction your coming from.
Information I got from a pilot friend is that there are/is at least one runway that is not used.

When I was in flight school at Kinston back in the early 90's there was one closed runway and another that was getting decommisioned little by little every year. It is completely decommisioned now. However, all three runways intersect at some point (they make a triangle.)

If you go HERE, there is an aerial picture and the FAA airport diagram of the airport. No much in the way of a big open ramp

Google Maps brought back a less than stellar picture of the airport.

Dang, I wish I had heard about this earlier. The Thunderbirds kick butt! I haven't seen them in more than a decade. Lots of the other performers look really cool as well. I've never seen an F-22 in person. I guess they probably do this every year?

Yep, about this time every year. Always a good show. Wish I was there. Another GREAT airshow in the area is Oceana NAS in Norfolk. A little bit of a drive but definately worth it from what I hear. The always have the Blue Angles there and the civilian acts are some of the best in the country. I plan on going next year.

That sounds like a good time. I saw the Thunderbirds perform once when I was a child. They were flying F100s at the time.

Last air show I went to was in Toronto. A RAF Nimrod took a header into Lake Ontario.

I feel like Debbie Downer. Go on.

Maybe an ITR in DS.
Or half-assed STX prepped 330.

It was pretty neat. The Thunderbirds KICKED ASS. As an engineer and a some-day hopeful private pilot wannabee, the things that those pilots and machines are capable of are amazing.

And there were plenty of neat planes to see, but I didn't know what I was looking at. Nathan got to sit in a coast guard helicopter and handle the stick, which he really got a kick out of!

The thing that will stick in my mind most, though, are the acres and acres and acres of perfect concrete....

Scott,

You are correct that it served multiple roles....
