Car enthusiasts around the world are in mourning with the news that Ford has built its last GT supercar.
The bright red GT bought by a Canadian rounded off a production run of 4,038 cars.
The last 40 GTs built were all for the Canadian market and are identified by slightly different front bumpers to comply with Canadian safety laws. A total of 277 GTs were sold in Canada and 105 in Europe, while 3,656 found homes in the US.
The first GT rolled of the line at Ford's Special Vehicle Centre in Wixom, Michigan on 30 June 2004. Production ran at around nine cars per day.
Fred Goodnow, engineering manager for the GT project, said: 'We're not going to see a project like this again. If times were different, maybe we'd have continued production or built a derivative. But Ford needs to focus its energies elsewhere right now.' article continues below
