Well you know they say that in everyone’s life some rain must fall. Well if your last name is Melton it’s more like a monsoon!

I called Randy last night to see when he was leaving for the PCA event this weekend. He informed me that he couldn't go because his toe was still hurting too much. What happened to his toe? A 200+ lb radiator fell on it and smashed it flat.

To top it off he’s unsure if he’ll get a refund because the PCA folks have a 20 day window which he has missed. He’s contacted the registrar but hasn’t heard back from him. I did notice that Randy’s name was removed from the entry list we were e-mailed this past weekend though.

He can’t run, and he may lose $300 for his trouble. I swear Randy just can’t get a break.

They're pretty busy right now prepping for the event so that may explain why he ain't heard back.

Speaking of breaks...... I didn't have any trouble getting promised a refund (said it'd be later before they'd have a chance to cut me a check).... I think this had something to do with it:

Matt,

Not sure what the problem is, they work fine here. They show up as links on this end, underlined, colored and all.

You could try c'n'ping the URL, as they aren't truncated. I juist tried the c'n'ping and that worked also. If it don't work for you, I'll try something else.

I'm at a complete loss as to why that is. See above.

Hang on I'll snag the thread link, but don't know why it'd be any better.

Here, I even figured out how to get it to go direct to the post..... it's #7370 in the 'thread from hell'..... yes that's right Seven Thousand Three Hundred & Seventy!

So that's what a Montego Blue Miata looks like shiny side down.

Ok, so how'd you guys get there, join up? Didn't mean to put you all to that much trouble? Dang 'puters..... ;(

Wes, how dare you insult Midnight calling it lowly "Montego Blue", that's "Starlight Mica" to you Sir!

For those who don't want to go to the trouble, I've finally gotten them up, along with additional ones of the aftermath. No sign in should be required here. Go to:

You can have first dibs, after me. I was planning on keeping the car to part out, and the price ain't too bad, but I have to add in the loss of transfer fees and sales tax remittance if I do, another $200+. However, after the ins. claims guy gave me some options I could do before releasing the car, I'll probably let it go, *after* sealing a deal with the salvage folks on the rear end.

Um, everyone out there with a Miata, get a rollbar, mmmkay?

Steve - I'd be interested in hearing the post-mortem on the accident and how you (any any other poor soul who was in there) fared... Since your head is apparently still attached to your body it appears you are OK. Looks like this happened on the street, so there may be some good lessons to point out about the lack of roll protection and that Miatas can and will go turtle.

Well, Mike, that is one point of view and the one I had when I first got my Miata and had a rollbar installed. But the more I thought about it, the more it seemed like a bad idea to me and I took it out. I just kept remembering what happened to Robert Plank on track years ago when he backed into a tire wall and even with a helmet, got a concusion when his head hit the rollbar. The more I thought about it the more I came to the conclusion that that big piece of metal hovering inches away from my unprotected head wasn't such a good idea. So it was either drive around all the time with a helmet on, (imagine the looks you'd get) or remove the rollbar. Sure the rollbar is most likely a good thing in the even of a rollover accident, but I'm vastly more likely to get rearended by someone than roll my Miata over. I can say that with a great deal of confidence. And in the case of being rear ended, I'm pretty sure I don't want the roll bar there. Just my opinion though...

Maybe you should start a new thread on the Miata rollover and subsequent debates on rollbars.

Hope no one was seriously hurt in that Miata.

Continuing the hijack.....

I'm having the same dilemma right now. When I street drive the car, to get my head out of contact range of the bar (assuming no seat deflection from an incident), I'm bolt upright, and forget about getting enough leg movement for heel-toe. To be comfortable, my head is brushing the bar "padding" at best. It may be that the best tradeoff is using one of the sport bars, which while lower and not SOLO1 legal, are mounted further back. I think this is what you've got Mike, no?
