Jesus, nine posts and only one answers any of my questions.

Thanks Bret.

Did y'all notice that I put "home security" in quotes? I live in Cary fer chrissakes.

Mike <-- owner of 7 handguns and zero shotguns

Sorry that I can't recommend any handguns Mike. I have been away from this (keeping up on this) for years. Only have opinions on basic strategy on how to go about this.

I do have the question of... If you already have 7 handguns. And you are focused on home security. I assume you feel that non of those seven will work for you? Too small (22), too large (50 cal desert eagle with custom handloads that will not look good in court?). Why the need for #8 (not that there is anything wrong with that).

You are not asking, but I don't see any comments regarding ammo. For example regarding the shotgun route. I am not going to be using a 12 guage with 00 buckshot in my house for self defense. Most likely I IMHO will be using bird shot.

Guys ... let me not mince words here. I'm not interested in home security. I have a handgun collection, and I want to get rid of one I don't care for, and pick up something else I have always wanted.

"Home Security" is merely the spousal justification for owning and collecting a bunch of mechanical objects that were designed to kill people, in a home with small children.

That's all. These guns stay locked in a safe. Sure, if WWIII were to break out and anarchy ensued, I'll be glad that I have 12 guns, but I'm not concerned about daily home security.

Besides, I have a nickel plated Colt Python .357 with an 8" barrel for home security already :)

My dad is an avid gun guy/hunter. He has 47 guns currently. Sadly, I have zero passion for it, even though I know I will be inheriting them all. He keeps a loaded gun in every room in his house. His bedside gun is a stainless steel Dan Wesson .44 with an 8" barrel. A friend of his tried to fire it at a range about 10 years back and I remember it kicked a lot harder than he expected, and he ended up needing 14 stitches in his nose.

Funny thing is, the new girlfriend has a loaded .410 under the bed. ;) - AB

The real question is, has she carved your initials in the shell yet?

Mike,

Forget about the guns, go up to Michigan and get those old bikes!
