This is the real time data for the creek just beside Southern States Subaru on Wake Forest Rd.

Fun day at work Kevin? I can't imagine how ya'll get those cars moved in time.

Well I did have a nerve-racking water crossing in my Subaru on the way to lunch today. I figuured "hey I can still see the yellow lines and I'm in an AWD car that cost me $1200".

Probably 4-6" deep and running pretty fast. Toward the end I was moving pretty slow and had a little opposite lock dialed in... Oops :)

Oh and I was on Azenis, which isn't the brightest thing to drive on in standing water!

Picked up new wheels and was back on the road about 2:30ish. Was on the way home and decided to make a detour (was gonna go talk to Kevin at SS) then was redirected off of Wake Forest Rd. Went into the parking lot at a shopping center that I'd never been at before and saw a wide puddle. Didn't think nothing off it because as I was approaching, it didn't look deep. As soon as I realized that it was going to go past the side skirts it was to late because the front dipped. Had to floor it to make it through. I made it through (Suby powah!!) Engine sputtered and made some coughing noises, then began to rumble like normal. Only visible damage, water on the inside of the headlights, about 2 inches of standing water in the floor of the car, and a wheel well full of water. Was able to then get to Garner where I turned the car off for about 20 minutes. Got back in the car and drove another 20 miles to get home, pulled off at the exit and the car died at the top of the exit. Pushed it off the side of the road, noticed that the battery was pretty low and swapped batteries with Kevin. She fired up and I moved it about 20 feet to get further from the off ramp. Took the battery back out, got a new battery and replaced. Car started right up and then shut off within 5 seconds and wouldn't fire again (it would crank, just wouldn't fire). Was able to toe it home, called the insurance company, started to get the water out of the car and then stopped when I realized that the visible water was mostly gone but there was still about an inch or so of standing water underneath the carpet that I just don't want to deal with. So I mostly dealt with the area around the computer to try and dry that up. Went back out to fire it up again this morning and am having the same results. :(

Luckily I do have all the good stuff on my policy (except towing apparently) so I'm picking up a rental today and waiting for the adjuster to see what the damage is in her estimate and find out what will happen from there. Amazingly enough, I'm taking this very well considering all that's going on.

If she's not busy (we did just flood all over the place so she may have a lot to do) then I should have a time set for her to look the car over today. Then she can come and give me the bad news about the car.

We had several Subarus (and some lesser vehicles) get drowned yesterday, but most of them survived. I'll post a pic of the '05 WRX that was drowned right in front of the dealership - it had water all the way up to the top of the fender arches. At least it was an automatic, though.

When I left yesterday they were still saying for us to stick around, and that it wasn't going to get any higher, blah blah blah. I drove through water about 8 inches deep with the RS to get out of the lot, and was on dry pavement heading downtown after about 50 yards. Ground clearance of the RS is around 6 inches. The water got about a foot higher after I left.

There was much cleaning up today, but we'll be back in business tomorrow.

I'm not supposed to publicly discuss what I think of how the situation was handled yesterday, but I'll just say that if the flooding happens again exactly they way it happened this time, good management decisions will result in saving ALL the cars. The dealership building will again be screwed, of course.

So far so good. On a positive side, the car was able to fire up and run for a couple of seconds this eve when I got home. At least I hope that's good news

Kevin,

It didn't happen to flood a yellow jeep on the used lot did it? I might be willing to make a deal and take my chances 8)
