Is it like that on all the tires? Are the tires holding air?

It certainly looks like they put enough glue on there.

It's hard to tell from the picture, but could it be rim protectors? I know that some tire manufacturers have these to prevent curb rash.

yes it is like that on all 4 tires.. and so far they're holding air.. they were in the back of my truck all day and they all seem to still have 36-38 psi which i would assume is what they were inflated to this morning

Alot of low profile tires, especially the expensive ones, have a sort of rim protector side wall. Tha is where their side wall comes out past the rim to help with those curbage issues. Hard to tell form the pic but that could be what you are seeing.

Hard to tell from the photo, but it looks like there is a protruding bead (and a gap between bead and rim) on left side of picture and that the bead is "tucked in" to the wheel on the right side (no gap). Is this correct when you see them in person?

If so, I have never seen a tire that mounts to a wheel asymetrically, and would guess its been incorrectly mounted.

Sorry I didn't show you that Matt. Adam is correct. It *is* a protruding bead designed to prevent "curbage". My Dunlop FM-901's have it too. You're fine, don't worry.

I concur with Vincent. The Falken Azenis, aka cheater tire, have a rim protector as well :) - AB

thanks for the input.. i had the guys here at work look at them as well and they said that's common for tires to be like that for wheel protection.. so i feel more comfortable now.. was worried at first because i'd never seen any like that before.. but i've never had decent performance tires on any of my past cars either..
