The Road Goes on Forever...Joe Ely. Got the CD :-)

Ding ding ding! It's actually a song written by Robert Earl Keen who is perhaps the most underrated lyricist of his generation. Or as I say it, "The Bob Dylan of country music" even though his music isn't technically strict country.

I'm not really a country music fan but REK is a genius and I own all his albums. I listen to his stuff on every road trip I take and it always puts me in the mood to race for some reason.

If you ever have a chance to see him in concert, do it! His live shows are always raucous and tons of fun. He breezes through town a few times a year and usually plays at the Cat's Cradle, The Lincoln Theater and Ziggy's (Winston Salem). I got to see him at the Carolina Theater in Greensboro last year and with the awesome acoustics in the place, he did an "unplugged" encore that simply rocked.

The Road Goes on Forever has been covered by Joe Ely, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, The Highwaymen, The Allman Brothers and countless others.

The Road Goes on Forever, off the live album, is by far one of the greatest performances ever recorded, IMHO. I don't care who covered it, nobody could beat that version. REK is a talented songwriter who also seems to keep very good musicians around in his band. It's unfortunate his voice is, well, what it is. ;) But his music is amazing. I *really* need to get out to one of his live shows...they keep not working into my schedule very well.

All you need is a ten and a fiver, a car and a key and a sober driver... :D

I'll second that! Live No. 2 Dinner is easily one of my favorite albums of all time. Great stuff all around.

:D I hear ya. To me, it's part of the appeal of his music. And when I decide to sing along, I don't sound so bad.

Raw, unprocessed and virtually void of all the electronic trappings of so much of what is on the radio. And a great story teller to boot. I likey!

Agreed on all points. The story about his car burning up is hilarious. I laugh every time I hear it. The other little bit about riding around San Marcos or wherever and seeing the big long orange extension cord to the window unit air conditioner sitting on a picnic table in the back yard is good, too.

And yeah, singing along to REK can make anyone sound like a star. :)

Those stories really are great. "And I thought to myself, I haven't had a Schlitz since third grade!" Classic.

And just to keep it somewhat on topic, REK is from Texas so you just *know* he has a sizable handgun collection.

Back on topic, I looked at the video last night and it's damn impressive. Funny to see the guy shooting it with elbows bent, but the gun put some nice holes when fired from the Exploder. ;)

My girlfriend keeps a loaded .410 pumper under her bed. This might be a better solution, for it could be kept in the nightstand. :) - AB

So is anyone planning to go to the Gun Show on May 5th or 6th? I was thinking about going on Sunday the 6th.

On a related note, anyone have suggestions about the best way to SELL a few handguns? I have a few I want to trade in on a different model.

Nice shooting btw Wes.

my experience with selling handguns is that the best money you will get out of them is craigslist or the local paper. but you can also take them to a gun show. just walk around with them in your hand, someone will ask you if they are for sale. you can sell it to them, just not offer it for sale.

also as for the speingfield xd. it is a very good gun, but not in leuge with the glock. i own an hs2000 and while springfield did resolve some of the issues i have with it it still is not a top of the line gun. certainly not worth what they charge for it. for those of you who didnt know it, the xd is not made by springfield it is made by a company in croatia. before you complain about that consider that croats do know a thing or two about killing people.

unfortunately gun opinions are many and varied, i have mine, they may differ from some of yours. one thing i think we can all agree on is training. get as much training as possible. take classes offerd by those tactical gun nuts. most of them know their stuff. i know training made the world of difference in how i handle my handgun. i would recommend someone, but all my gun connections are in tennessee.

i know i want to start ipsc again. i had a lot of fun doing it back in TN. also i hear they doa 3gun match in southport.

Thanks for the input. You know what's weird though? I have never, ever been able to find a gun listed on Craigslist. I assumed it's run by hippies and against some terms of use, but I have never seen anything about it in the help section.

Dunno if I'm interested in wandering about a gun show hoping someone will make me an offer either.

Any other options? Is there a "Gun Trader" magazine out there somewhere?

fwiw i have seen and bought guns off craigslist. and i dont blame you about the gunshow, but next show your look for a pack of people hanging around right at the entrance. watch them for a bit.

i know there are gun auction websites. but anything done like that needs an ffl. any private sale doesnt.

btw what do you have for sale? pm me if its against the rules to post it here.

http://www.gunbroker.com/ is the ebay of the gun world, with no scamming.

Have the guys at either Personal Defense in Garner or Young's Guns in Apex provide the transfer service necessary by law. Or get them to sell it on consignment.

Haven't decided which to part with yet. Here's what I have (sorry I'm just a recreational enthusiast, not hardcore so I don't know a lot about what I have -- got them all from my dad)

Probably going to keep:
Colt Python .357 nickel 8" barrel
Colt Diamondback .22 black 8" barrel
Smith & Wesson .22 semiauto target pistol

Probably up for sale:
Colt Diamondback .22 nickel 8" barrel (never been fired)
Walther P-38 9mm WWII era with Nazi swastica on it (collector value?)
Pocket .25 semiauto
Pocket .22 semiauto

Looking to buy:
Some kind of compact, modern 9mm semiauto

Would trade among the ones up for sale for a semiauto. Any interest or suggestions?

*smacks head* Duh, gun store!!! Why didn't I think of that!

Thanks Wes, just talked to Young's. Sounds like they will be quite helpful, willing to buy outright, trade, or do consignment.

Better than them sitting around locked up in a safe. I don't collect things I don't use.

if you really have a nazi weapon get some pics to me before selling it. it could be very valuable or it could not be. but shoot me the pics and any and all numbers/writing on it. i have some friends who deal in guns and ill ask them.

i wouldnt take some gun store clerks word on something like that. also if it is a rare collectors piece i can get you in touch with some of the wierdos who like that stuff.

edit: i feel like that may have come off wrong. i dont associate with that type of people. but i have friends who have had to associate with them proffesionally.
