I assume that you mean zed ought six.

No. Calling a Z06 a "Z", a Corvette a "vette" and a Mustang a "stang" is simply goddamn ridiculous.

There is but one type of Z car, and a Corvette isn't it.

The next thing you know, Vincent will call his Z-28 Cavalier a Z.

Ask Adam L about his "reliable 944". Porsche parts ain't cheap or at the local AutoZone either.

Say what?

I have owned the car for the past 8 yrs and it has only stranded me once, with a bad alt. Which I got rebuilt the same day for a $150. Save a clutch the parts are not bad at all, especially an early pre 86 944. It had fueling issues at CMP, but still finshed out the day and drove me 3 hrs home.

I would say a na 944 is a perfect track car to learn on. They are cheap nowadays, have a great suspesnion and balance set up. And are both over-braked and can be over-tired for their power. All that makes a very benign and easy to learn with track car. And should you ball it up, they are pretty easy to find.

And Vincent my '85 944 is still on its orignal motor, can you say that about all your newer cars?
:P

Yea, there is only one...the Z/28 Camaro. The Z had a well established performance and race record long before the Japanese copy. You might recall the Penske/Donanhue cars?

While I like the original Z/28 as much as the next guy, I think you might have a little different definition of long than I do. The Z/28 was introduced in 1968, the Fairlady Z (which became the 240Z in the US) was in 1969. One year is hardly a long time and I really don't think that Datsun was using the Z letter as a way of copying Chevy. After all, how many Z/28s were sold in Japan?

That must explain the abundance of information on these cars that you get when you do a google search of "z car".

Wrong. The first Z/28 was built in December of 1966. They started to ship in January of 1967. My father's friend had a 1967 Z and my father special ordered a 1969 Z. One heck of a family car...a 1969 Z. The 302 was rated at 290HP

Someone email these guys and let them know that they have it all wrong.

My first "auto" love was a 240Z. When I was just a kid, my neighbor had one that he was just letting rust away. :( It was unlocked and I used to just sit inside and dream.

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

OK, I was wrong. They were available, but they were very rare and hardly advertized in 1967. You had to know about them to get one is what I understand. And I agree, cool car, but with 602 sold in 1967 and 7,199 in 1968, of which I am guessing 0 went to Japan, just what was Datsun copying?

Claiming that the 240Z took the letter Z to copy the Z/28 is somewhere between unsubstantiated speculation and a fantasy.

Z goes a little further back than the Camaro with GM.

October 1962 - 4 Z06 optioned Vettes enter Grand Prix at Riverside.

1963 Model, Option Z06 (Special Performance Option), 199 built.

Aye Zora!!!
