i dont know how to post video links to the web forum yet, so ill give you the info to find it, its a video of gale banks truck undergoing baja testing in barstow, southern california, check out the air they get in a 8k lb. baja prepped though mostly stock truck.. goto: galebankspower.com
then click on banks racing, its on the top of their screen, then scroll down to: baja 1k kilometers, then they have a video in windows mediatime of the truck undergoing testing, pretty good for a big big truck, now, you are probably wondering what my deal with diesel is, well, two words, raw muscle.. they may not be as fast as a gas v-8,(though that is quickly changing) but the torque you can get from a diesel turbo motor is very impressive, also, you get more mileage from one as well, that and i am around diesel all day at wilson tech.. so there is that 2.. however, audi has won sebring with their r10, so apparently they are on to something, audi also has a car:the audi a8 tdi, quattro.. which has 325 hp. and 479 ft lbs of torque from a 4.2 i think, litre diesel turbo v8, and quattro all wheel drive, ought to make the big car very quick, and, mercedes is coming out with a diesel v6 turbo car, which i think is 3 litres capacity, quite quick too, for a long time, diesel was not seen as a real performance option, b/c the development was just not there.. but now with gas prices being somewhat higher.. efficenciey is becoming rather important.. gone are the days where we just let a gas motor run a lil rich and not think of gas prices, bmw also, the 120d hatchback, is not a rocket, but is not slow either.. i would think that, if we could get diesel to be cheaper than gas, which it ought to be anyway, that we would see lots more diesel technology being devloped, as it stands, the pickup trucks are getting really eerily powerful, and, when you can put a truck or car, in one gear, and just ride around at less than 3k rpm(which is usually max on most big diesels), up any real hill, with out straining anything, that is impressive, that the tach is really not moivng that much, setting just above idle, and the tires, be they front or rear, are just roasting in a big smokeshow, that is impressive.... i do hope audi can prove htat their r10 is capable of winning the title in the usa this year, i think that would really change peoples minds, now, i dont have anything agaist hybrids, i think that the toyota prius is a amazing piece of technology, simply amazing, but the advantage falls away out of the big city, living out in wilson, where most speed limits are 50 or above, stop and go traffic does not seem to exist as much, so while a hybrid is a amazing alternative, really cutting out the whole fuel need altogether, on the highway, they are not as good as in town, and, driving on track, the batteries start to weigh you down, a diesel, especially north course, where there is that big hill, a hybrid would get up ok, i think, with the electric motor helping it along, but nothing can match a turbodiesel up a hill, no weight holding it back, like batteries to things like that, lastly, gran turismo 4, has the bmw 120d, and a prius, i tested them both, the diesel was faster by a substatial marrgin, while on road and tracks analysis, on the back of every issue, the prius, while amazing thing, was far from being very quick, ive gotta think the batteries affected the cornering of hte car.....
