Did everyone make it through the traffic stop okay? We left early and squeezed through it before they started stopping cars. I hear the wait was pretty long once they started.

It was in Southern Pines on 1 heading north back toward Sanford. I wonder what they were up to? Seemed like an abnormally high number cops there for just a random license check. They must have been looking for something.

We stopped for dinner in Souther Pines - by the time we made it through, we had added 25 minutes to our trip. By that time, I almost WANTED to talk to one of them, but when we finally got to the inspection area, all of them were just waiving traffic through.

not quite that lucky. the DOT guy cited me for no safety inspection on my trailer. news to me, but who am i to argue.

so when was the last time anybody saw a DOT Inspector @ a roadblock? the cop from Southern Pines who i first talked to asked about the race after i told him i had a car in the trailer. very odd. i did notice a few rice rockets, was there a drifting thing somewhere? maybe Rockingham? Saturday was apparently Mustang drag racing, maybe the drifters were piggy backing the drags.

Technically, you need plates on even the Harbor Freight tire trailers. What I find as being funny is that a similar tired/square footage pig roaster is specifically exemplified from that legislation. Yes, I own the only licensed autocross tire trailer in the state of NC.

I think we left the Sagebrush in Aberdeen/SoPines around 8(?), and despite being tipped off by Chris Suich earlier that it was there (thanks Chris!), we still decided to chance the hassle by taking 1 rather than going around it on 501. Fortunately they were closing up shop by then and we rolled right through unhassled.

It was funny, there were some kids at the gas station where (I think) Old US 1 splits off just north of the Sagebrush, holding signs that said "Caution, traffic stop ahead!" and jumping up and down. I doubt many people saw the sign, and likely even fewer acted on it, but it was nice of them to try.

Steve said he got a ticket for not having his trailer INSPECTED, nothing about it not being licensed.

I guess it's been state law for a while, but I have only seen a handful of trailers with NC inspection stickers affixed.

As others have mentioned, the deal in NC for trailer license is the "permanent" trailer plate- it's ~$75 and it's permanent (duh!).... Pays for itself if you plan to keep the trailer for 5 years or more.

I tried to call everyone on my phone list who I thought might be behind us ... no one answered! Called Carl, Shawn, Adam B. I did get Rob but he was on a different road :)

Made it through, no problems, even though someone else was driving my car. I thought I saw Tom O's silver M Roadster pulled over though...

FWIW, I was told by someone (maybe the trailer manufacturer) that a safety inspection is only required for any trailer which "obscures the brake lights of the vehicle towing it". So enclosed = needs inspection, open = does not. Theoretically.

According to the inspection book, NC requires safety inspections on all trailers over 4500 gvwr. I can have more detail on whats required for trailers if anyone's intrested when i get home from work.

We breezed through. We got there right after they started checking cars. The did verify that the truck registration matched the plate on the truck, but didn't even bother looking at the trailer (didn't want to see it's registration either).

Momma sitting in back with a grouchy 15 mo. old also helps with these situations.

yeah, it added about 15mins to my drive time...my tire trailer doesn't have a plate on it, so i was kinda worried about it...the cop took my liscense and registration, had a look and sent me on my way.
