I went tonight. It's definitely better than last year, since they had more space -- both the Jim Graham building and the new Exposition building. Some brands were not there -- didn't see any Mercedes, Porsches, Audis, or Jaguars. However, the Sport Durst people had 2 Elises and 1 Exige on display, and I finally sat in a 2006 Miata that I won't buy. (They haven't gotten much bigger inside. Maybe a half inch less negative headroom.) I also found a new z/O6, a Viper coupe, a Ford GT, Mustang GT-R concept (the orange one from 2004), and a Shelby GT-500.

We spent about 10 minutes listening to an Army lieutenant talk about a Bradley Fighting Vehicle parked between the exhibition buildings. Apparently his took 7 RPG rounds during one ambush in Iraq in 2004. Not much I could do but to shake his hand and say "thanks".

Outside the new exposition building, Toyota had an obstacle course set up on what remains of the old midway. (The exposition building encroaches on the old midway... where I watched my first THSCC autocross in 1988). Anyway, I saw cones and piles of dirt, so I had to try. I drove a 2006 Tundra, and while the first part of the course was pretty tame, there were some interesting side hills to negotiate and 15' high hill to climb and descend at the end. Kinda wierd at the top, when all I could see was the hood and dark blue sky. The rep riding shotgun with me said his name was Billy Edwards. Said he used to be a chief instructor with the Mid Ohio School and with Track Time. Anybody know him?
