Another vote for the V1. Everything that was said above is true. How often do you plan to buy a radar detector? My point is that it is worth the extra money, especially when you factor in the fact that they will upgrade it for you.

Y'all do know that NC is doing an Operation Slow Down on 85, 95 and 40. It was even on the news.

In particular, watch out for the bushes on 40 near the Gorman St. exit, from what I've heard. I've also heard that the troopers are putting unmanned pulse units around the Triangle too, just to get people that have detectors to stop worrying about the boy crying wolf. Until Johnathan Q. Law decides to man the unit, that is.

Yeah, it was crazy on 40 this weekend. I was in Raleigh for the Seinfeld show, and my V1 went off like once every 30 minutes. I don't think they were false alarms either. I have had it long enough that I can tell for the most part. I guess that trick worked on me...I ran 80-85 instead of 90-100!

Yes, another V1 vote. Everything is already said about it.

I drive between Creedmor exit (Hwy 50) and 40 every day. Apparently the state troopers own that section and business is good. But from Creedmor Rd to Capital Blvd exits it is swarming with Raleigh cops. Especially around Six Forks and Falls of the Neuse areas. Watch your step. Last week I counted 6 Raleigh cruisers writing up tickets in that area at the same time. Business is booming for them.

Somebody's got to pay for the 540 extension completion.

Valentine 1. For all the reasons listed above.

FWIW, I bought mine in probably 2000. I recently went through their upgrade wizard thing on their website. It said basically "Don't bother unless you want POP protection (dunno what that is) and a slimmer case."

A friend of ours was in that bunch, and learned that "soccer moms" get NO slack.

Also a word of caution, there's a COMPLETELY unmarked white Camaro with dark tinted windows working along this stretch....

V1 vote from me also ... the arrows are absolutely invaluable and the remote display is well worth the upgrade. Mine's down near the stick and it's a quick ergonomic move to silence the tone. That and it keeps it low profile at night.

As for the upgrades, they suck... I've done it a few times. Valentine does a great job and the turnaround is quick, but I hate going without my V1 for a week. It's ike driving naked.... with your mom in the car.

Back in the day, we caravanned to track events (me, Whitneys, Karl, Ron, Diane, etc, etc, etc). Karl's V1 always, and I mean *ALWAYS*, gave at a minimum a 1/4 mile earlier warning than whatever Ron was using.

V1 has won every radar test in Car And Driver that I've ever read. At least the last 10 years running.
