I was wondering if anyone here is capable of installing some new Penskes on my z06. I would like to have them installed before the test n tune autocross, but I will have the car with me in Florida until the Tuesday prior. So, I would need them installed between that Tuesday and that Saturday.

Anyone want to get their hands dirty? I would like to help out so I learn more about the car by working on it. I have money, can buy beer, and can offer a co-drive or two in the car in exchange for the help.

Thanks

Sure, I'll install them for you Adam. I might "accidentally" poke a hole or two in a couple of them, you don't need any oil in in your dampers for them to work. Geez man, you don't need to make that thing any faster, I still had some fleeting hope of an FTD in '06...

Hey now, have you forgotten? Thats how I intend to get an FTD in '06, co-driving the FSAE car with you. I sure as hell can't do it in a wimpy little Miata.

Who knows.. .these Penskes might complicate the matter too much and I might get slower. I am hoping to get them on before the test and tune so I can at least dial them in a little.

Look on Corvette Forum and you can find instructions. Shock replacement on a C4 or C5 is no big deal.

You're only hassle would be where to put the remote reservoir for those Penskes. Hopefully they sent you brackets and recommended locations.

Danny Popp hangs out on CF quite a bit. I'm sure he can tell you exactly where to install the reservoir and what settings to try for a baseline. Mike Johnson has been on there lately. Heck Jr. tried to sell me his old SA Penskes a couple of days ago. Too rich for my blood. I got a set of new Sachs shocks on their way that will be just fine for street and track.

Yeah- I am not worried about the difficulty... just looking for someone that has the tools and a decent workspace to help with the install.

I was racing with Jr up at VMP not too long ago and watched him change his rear shocks (those SA Penskes that he offered) you back to the stock SACHS shocks before the runs started for the day.

Also, I don't have mounting brackets for the reservoirs, so I will likely need someone who can fashion a bracket or two. I have seen these reservoirs zip tied in place on several z06s, so if in a pinch I think that could work - maybe :?:

thanks

Yeah I don't have the BMF socket yet that is needed for the rear lower bolt. Have to look it up but it's a biggun... I'd help you but I can't meet your schedule. I'm behind on getting my car ready. Spent last week getting the C4 ready to sell. Sold it in less than a day!

Here's one for you that I almost forgot to mention. Especially for a car that is tracked/autoxed the stresses are increased. Tech Bulletin with the appropriate part numbers for the bolts and new torque specs:

Condition/Concern:
The rear shock lower attaching bolt may break when tighten to the proper torque of 162 ft lbs (220 40 N/m) after being removed for service.

Recommendation/Instructions:
Anytime the rear lower shock bolt is removed for service. Replace the shock attaching bolt with part number: 14048990 and Nut with part number: 11516383. The bolts are torqued to yield and are one time use only. Torque the bolt to the new torque of 107 ft lbs (145 10 N/m) as opposed to the current released torque of 162 ft lbs (220 40 N/m) in SI2000.

Note: When tighten the new bolt to factory spec, The nut must be held secure and the torque should be applied to the bolt head only.
