Do the SuperPro, not the Mazda Comp. Notice that COC's fit without doing any polyurethane machine work.

By the way, it had the upgraded alignment bolts already so I didn't need to get these.

Cool.

Ryan:
Think real hard before you go to Delrin.
Delrin is absolutely non-compliant. It has virtually "0" noise isolation. You're still using your car on the street.

Polyurethane is one way to go, but also consider the 40% stiffer RUBBER bushings from Mazdacomp. Less compliant than Poly, but with the same added convenience of noise isolation. Little more $$, but worth it, IMO. When I do the bushings (maybe next year) that's what I intend installing.

My understanding is that Delrin's (Acetal homopolymer) failure mode is cracking to pieces after the wear starts, since it has virtually no elasticity.

Any organic chemists out there confirm this or have any other suggestions on alternate materials?? :?:

Actually, this thread belongs in the Tech section :D

It's still on stands, but all of the Powerflex poly bushings are in and they went in easy, snug, but easy. The old ones were cracking and probably well past shot with 114K miles on them. They came out like a, well I won't use the word that I did in the garage, but it sucked.

BTW this is Sean doing the dirty work

It's a simple job, right? Not in the easy sense but definitely straightforward.

Mr. Mackey, you're welcome to take my Miata around the block to see how poly bushings feel riding around.

Simple, yeah that was the word I was avoiding. J/K when we got into it, it wasn't that hard. Another example of the right tool making the difference. I still can't imagine what solution I would have come up with had you not offered your help. I still had one bushing that required a series of small drill bit holes to loosen it up, but most of them cranked right out with the HF 'c-clamp thingy' you loaned us.

You are right on that, I didn't know it would evolve into what it has. I can tell you that it has been a world of help to me in this project.

When we end up doing Ryan's bushings I'm sure fire will be involved. :woo:

I heard about a new bushing material the other day. IIRC it's oil impregnated nylon. Makes sense. As a mechanical designer, we have avoided using nylon as a bushing material because it could wear metal parts out. Nylon machines well and can also be injection molded. With a little self lubrication, they may be on to something.
