Got home with it from DC about 1am last night (after stopping for dinner in Richmond to show it off to Tim Aro). :)

So far I've got 330 miles or so on it with most of them interstate and most of them below 4500 RPMs. I can say for sure that the low end grunt added by "sport" mode is well worth the extra money. The firm setting for PASM will shake your teeth out on a bumpy section of Interstate. The car does look better in person than pictures (and I liked the pictures!). It drives very "precise". It'll be interesting to hang out for the first time. My option list, as best I recall:

PCCB
PASM
PSM
Sport Chrono
Sport Wheel
Sport Seats
Red
Base wheels (18's)
Sport Shifter
Bi-Xenon Headlamps
Automatic Climate Control

I think I got every performance option and *nothing* else, except for Xenons and ACC (and the headlights are arguably a performance advantage). :) Should be able to get it on scales next week, as well as the alignment rack.

I think I speak for everyone when I say, we hate you. J/K

Seriously though, nice!!

I think I remember reading one of your posts that you traded in your GT3 and got an STi. How would you compare the Cayman to the GT3??

I don't want to take pics. It rained on the way home and now it's dirty. :)

PCCB is ceramic brakes, PASM is active suspension management (ie. computer adjustible dampers), and PSM is traction control (listing that may have been dumb as I'm pretty sure that's standard on Porsches now).

Yes, it'll be in SS. I don't think it's classed just yet, but that's where the current Boxster is, and most feel it's a pretty huge underdog. The Cayman S should be better, but it's hard to think it'll be enough better to compete with the C5 Z06. Maybe on momentum maintenance courses...

I didn't have a GT3, I had a 996TT. If I had a GT3 I probably wouldn't have traded it for an STi. :) The AWD in the 996 (and likely 997) Turbo makes that car pretty numb to drive. Not a lot of feedback, and the added weight is pretty significant. A GT3 would kick its butt on most tracks and be way more fun to drive. But I bought the Turbo before I had done any competitive driving and knew my butt from a hole in the ground (which is about the most I can say for my driving skills, but I digress...).

GH Sharp is going to be driving the Cayman S at some events this year, likely including some Tarheel stuff early as well as Ft. Myers. I'll drive it with him some, but I also plan on driving the CS Miata and the AS STi some, too.

If you want pics go look at any Cayman with the base wheels in Red online. ;)

The car really looks great! I wasn't sure how the red would look on it, but it really suites the car well. It has to be the most solid feeling car I've ever drive on the road and very comfortable. Very compliant and comunicates extremely well, at least during my very tame demo run. It will be fun to see how well GH and Donnie do in the car once they get some seat time and sort it out a bit. And, I'm sure they'll have a lot of fun as well :-)

Donnie, Congrats on your new toy. I stopped by Performance in Chapel Hill Saturday afternoon and looked at the two Caymans in the showroom. Beautiful cars!

nice car Donnie. It will be fun in SS this year - but I don't know about you bring a national champion with you to events. I guess I will have to pedal faster.

congrats on the car!
