Just FYI

Quote:
Town of Cary solid waste customers who need to dispose of used motor oil can call the Public Works and Utilities Department at (919) 469-4090 to arrange a curbside pickup at no extra charge.

They will get up to 5 gallons at a time. The oil needs to be in a sealed container which you will not be getting back. The lady on the phone suggested milk jugs with a screw-on lid.

curbside pickup would be nice.. also for those who don't know the city/county (cant remember which it is) dump on durant rd in raleigh does HazMat disposal the first saturday of every month. automotive fluids, paint, i think car batteries and other stuff like that. drive in, drop off, drive out. also a good place to drive in to weigh your car :D since they have a scale on the entrance to weigh people that are doing comercial dumping

Do you (or anyone else) know what the hours are? Also, where exactly on Durant is it? This is perfect timing, cause I have a lotta stuff that needs to go.

Thanks

FYI, the Advance Auto Parts on Kildare Farm Rd. accepts used oil for free. It is located in the same shopping center as the KFC, the pizza joint "The Loop" and the unfinished furniture place. I think the name of the shopping center is "Saltbox Village" but don't quote me on that...

Anyway, they have big drums in the rear of the store and you just pour your used oil in there-- and you get to keep your container! :D I've been dumping my used oil there for years now. I have no idea if other Advance Autos offer the same service but it might be worth checking into.

Bill,

Unfortunately Nov 1st was the first Saturday of the month...
If you are close enough. The Citgo place in the new strip mall on Leesville Rd right near the entrance to I540. They do oil changes, inspections etc.. When I was there getting my sticker the guy said I could bring oil and dump it in their pit anytime they were open. I have mine in 5 gal gas containers and they didn't have a problem with that. I also talked the guys at the Jiffy Lube on Six Forks and Newton into letting me drop off oil before.

I used to use the county land fill on Durant when it was available any day of the week.

Most, if not all, oil change places and auto parts stores that sell oil will take your used oil for free. There is environmental legislation that gives these companies benefits for doing so. The benefit is all dependent upon how much is taken in each month, so they take it for free to encourage you. I use 5 gallon heavy duty buckets with lid (hard as hell to get the lid off once you've put it on) that I buy from Walmart for like $2 a piece. - AB
