As a kid, growing up in the surrounding area, it was a great place to live. I'd never live near there again, though. Especially with kids...trouble was just too easy to find. I'd much rather be up in the Adirondacks.

Where abouts? When I travel to Potsdam I fly into Albany versus Syracuse. The Albany route takes me to the northway --Warrensburg--blue mountain--Indian Lake--Tupper Lake--> Potsdam area. If I recall, it's routes 21 --> 30-->3-->56. It's about 1.5 hours longer drive time than flying into Syracuse and driving up boring 81. One of my college roomates was from Minerva. We have relatives living outside of the Adirondacks, bit close--Fort Ann--near Saratoga Springs (one of my favorite ares of the Adirondacks).

I live less than an hour out of Boston (if there is no bad traffic) and I think it's great. :) The NorthEast is nice (though cold in the winter).

One thing I LOVE about "Yanks" is that they know how to get the hell out of the way if they are going slower than I am in the left lane on the highway. They don't stay there like it's their god given right to go the speed limit +1 in the fast lane. I noticed while driving down to Rockingham that the moving out of the way stopped as we drove south through New Jersey. *sigh*

Diane ~ who is a southern transplant into NE, but really likes it here. (does that mean I never really belonged in the south?)

Been to NYC a lot. My sister even lives there now (God bless her :lol: ) Although I agree wholeheartedly about it being a great place to visit, the other side also stands true. I couldn't live there. Fun place though. :D

I don't know where everyone gets this Idea that Cary is full of uptight people. I've lived there for 9 years and have yet to see anything along the lines of the stereotyping that is portrayed by jealous wannabees 8)

the funniest thing i have ever sen on television was a public access broadcast of a cary town meeting. this particular episode was during the time when cary was restricting building permits. some poor wannabe stood up to protest the fact that he could not purchase a lot to build on in cary. it distressed him to no end, he unfortunately had to build in morrisville, and this was just not right in his opinion.

so, no, i guess all the uptight aholes must be on the morrisville side of preston. because there is no more room in cary for any more of those type people. sorry, i wouldn't piss on cary if it was on fire. nothin personal Chris. steve

When I was a poor student going to NCSU in the late 70's I lived in Cary for a year. We used to play a game at night. We would drive across Cary fro our apartment off of Harrison ave to the Food Lion on Kildare Farm and back. Of couse being a poor student we were driving old Japanese cars. (Some things don't change) We would see how many Cary police followed us on our journey. My personal best was 3 at one time.

I just don't understand some of you people. I've never been capable of hatred of a whole city. Individuals, even groups, sure, but a city? That's just dumb. Every city does stupid things, every place I have ever been has people I like and people I don't. Is any one better than another? Not in my experience.

OK, ok, I *hate* N. Raleigh (esp Capital Blvd) because it seems like I sit for 5 minutes at every stop light I see. And I hate sitting at stoplights. But maybe I just haven't found all the good backroads there.

Steve,

I wouldn't let the visible minority create a bad name for any area. Case(s) in point:
-Fuquay-->Crack haven or so you'd think with the news reports a few years back.
-North Raleigh-->Prostitution.
-Durham-->Gang Violence.
-Raleigh-->Murders.
-Knightdale--> kids out of control and budding gang activity.

I know people from all of these towns and none of them fit the bill from their respective area. I've yet to meet anyone from Cary that fit the stereotype either.

A friend who drove down Capital Blvd to see me described that area as "your own little slice of New Jersey." Not exactly a glowing review. Of all the areas in the Triangle, the Mini-City area is my least favorite.

I'm guessing since you put the smiley faces at the end of your statement you realize this, but that is exactly a large part of the reason for the hatred of Cary. Its this sugar coated, yuppieville, sweetness that revolts me so much about the place. Cary is not a city, it is just a big middle class housing development with the associated retail stores and umpteen million uninteresting chain restaurants. Add to that the attitude of the town leaders to maintain the "sugar coated goodness" at all costs and it makes me want to hurl...

Yet you still live there, so it cannot be that bad... :whoknows:
