Waraji best in the Triangle I'd say.
Sushi Tsune, the low-key place of choice for us.

Maybe an ITR in DS.

I have to say I rather enjoy Sushi Blues as well. They are kind of pricey but thier rolls are huge.

There is also a place kind of near the intersection of Maynard and Chatham St (on Maynard) called Tokyo House (I think)....I haven't been in about 2 years, but it was always pretty good and they have decent lunch specials.

I know that is a bit off-topic. But if you're in North Raleigh around the Millbrook-Atlantic area, go to the Royal China buffet because the lunch buffet has decent sushi for the price. I enjoy $15-$25 varietiesas much as anyone else, but for about half the price, it's fresh and they have a little bit of variety.

Another vote for Waraji as the best in the area. Surprising, perhaps, but we've picked up some pretty good sushi at our local Harris Teeter...

I went there a bunch when I lived off of Maynard.

Adam, I guess that Les and I missed you last night at the bait shack in Crossroads.

sushi tai is my favorite...everyone's covered the local places pretty well...i thought i'd amuse you with a sushi story

while ordering a la carte nigiri:

waiter - "hey, have you tried giant clam"
me - "nope, but i'll try it if you think it is good"
waiter - "it's good"
me - "ok"

waiter - "here is your sushi, when you eat the clam you have to poke it"
me (in my head) - "is this some sort of ritual or some way to tenderize the clam...hmmmm"

so i go to eat the clam, i poke it quite a bit cause i think it is to tenderize it...i eat it, it's good, would order it again

waiter comes back - "did you like the clam"
me - "yes"
waiter - "did you poke it"
me - "yes"

waiter - "did it move"

Thanks for all of the reviews.

We went to Kashin in Cary last night. It was pretty good. A nice small place with only room for around 30 or so people. But being a Wednesday night we got in without any trouble. We ordered a few pieces of Nigiri (Yellow Tail, Salmon, and Scallops) plus three rolls: Spicy Tuna, Yum Yum, and a Shrimp Tempura roll. We also had Miso soup and a veggie Tempura appetizer.

The scallops were great - My daughter (7 yrs) ate the salmon nigiri. Luckily she took it apart and noticed the wasabi hidden underneath. Anyway, she liked it a lot and ordered another order. The rolls were good, not the best I have ever had, but very good none the less. The Yum Yum (never had one) was extremely spicy. The Shrimp Tempura roll was for my wife who is 8 months pregnant, so the raw fish should be kept to a minimum.

Anyway all in all I would say it was the best we have had in the Raleigh area. Next we will try the place in North Raleigh that everyone is talking so good about.

Thanks again for your input.

An interesting thing about Kashin is that the owner, Paul, is a big BMW enthusiast. He has (or used to have) a supercharged E36 M3 sedan. Ask him about it sometime, he loves to talk about cars.

Paul no longer has the M3, he had for awhile an M-Roadster, but said he sold that as well. He is now thinking of an Evo. I've tried to get him to come out to autocrosses to no avail so far, but he did express some interest this week, so maybe next season we'll see him at one. Definitely fun to eat sushi and talk cars with him, he's a good guy.
