If you are in Hong Kong check out the jade market. They have something for every budget. Don't spend a lot of money for anything unless you know what you are buying. The value of jade varies wildly with quality but I have no idea what is good and what is bad. I really liked some of the carved pieces they had for sale pretty cheaply. I guess labor to carve jade costs less than the jade.
When I was there they were selling very small wireless video cameras for cheap. Neat if you want to set up a bumper cam or something.
The tailors will find you if you in Hong Kong. They pay guys to stand out on the street and lure you in. They mob western looking people relentlessly.
Stay away from copy watches unless you can pick one up for less than $10 as a novelty. I bought "New Swiss Army" watches for my co-workers for about $2 each.
I bought a couple DVD's for for like $2. One was of a current release and sucked, the other was of an older movie and while watch able it wasn't US quality. Just having a copy of the movie art with Chinese characters is worth the $2 to me as a souvenir.
I don't know but things may be cheaper in China than Hong Kong. Real estate prices are insane there and that cost is added to everything you buy there.
And last but not least, always ask for a lower price, even in chain stores. They may not cut you a deal but many will. They won't act surprised and even if they tell you no they will do so very politely.
Good luck on the trip. I know you are ready to bring a Meghan home

ps. Places to eat and things to see. If you have time in Hong Kong. Visit the "peak" on the tram. It's worth the price of the trip. There is a restaurant up there in the Peak tower which is worth eating in just for the view. They have a 2 story window which looks out over the city and harbor. If you have the cash, and I mean a lot of cash, and can make reserveations like now, the Peninsula hotel has one of the top rated restaurants in Hong Kong. The Floating Jumbo seafood restaurant is cool but is on the other side of the island and takes a while to get too. A Ride on the star ferry is the cheapest tour of the harbor you can get and is worth doing both during the day and at night.
