On my way home from work today (9/20) I start feeling this vibration in my pedals and hearing this loud tapping sound that wasn't there before. After immediatly pulling over, the vibration subsides and the tapping lessens, but is still audible. I fear the worse for my $400 wonder and need someone who is willing to tow my beater to my house. It's parked at the intersection of 1010 and Graham Newton Road (a couple of miles up from Holly Springs Road) I will end up renting a dolly by the end of the day and using my relatives truck if I can't find a fellow racer who could lend a hand. Just so you know what you would be getting into, I live right off of Main Street in downtown Benson. So it's about a 25 mile one way trip from the current resting spot of the Sentra. If anyone can and is will to help, please let me know ASAP so I can plan accordingly.

I can probably help. I'm hauling a car to the scrap place in Garner Weds morning- so I'll have an empty trailer coming this way in the afternoon.

Thanks for the offer Mike. I think Bret is going to lend a hand. It just makes more sence seeing as how he's already going to be in the area (sortof) and he's also coming back this way (sortof) when he's done. If something changes, I'll let you know. Thanks again.

Ok, well after Bret and Kelly came out to help cart the car back home, we found the problem. Actually, they SAW the problem as I tried to move it.

Cost to replace is not worth it in my book, so it's off to the scrap heap. Will post more later.

Can you at least salvage the awesome paint job?

I have to say it looks like part of the piston or maybe the main bearings, but with those very hard to figure out pics I could very well be wrong. Sorry to hear about the sentra Cosby.

The dark pieces (cast iron) are pieces of the block where the rod came thru- and I agree that the cast aluminum pieces look like pieces of a broken piston, they look like a piece of the top corner to me though.....

Wow, you said the engine sounded bad but you didn't say the bottom of the engine was missing!

I guess that extra quart of oil didn't work, huh?

Ok, so I didn't check the actuall size of the pics when I posted them. I just hit enter and ran. So their fixed now to an appropriate size.

No, the extra quart of oil didn't help. Funny thing is, there was no oil on the ground after we got it loaded, and it wasn't low (as in I'm on empty) when I checked it prior to putting the oil in!

Also, after thinking about it, I did have SOME warning before this. Just not in the way that I thought. That "exhaust" leak that I thought I had must have been this. When I changed the oil earlier, I didn't pay it any attention, but the tick went away for just under a week, then it returned. It didn't return bigger and badder, it just returned. That must have been my "warning" that something was wrong.

Latter on, when I start feeling the pinch on gas prices again, I'll have to pick up another beater. Especially if I'm still considering running SU2 next year. So Bret, I will let you know when I'm ready to start looking. Also, after I get all the necessities off this thing (gas, gas tank, paint job) can I enlist your services for transport to Garner? Same fee or otherwise if you want. Thanks again for all your help in getting that back to the house for me.

Cos, let's talk parts. We need a few items for the General. Please don't scrap it until we can get together.

It looks like the rod blew the side of the block out, the oil is probably still in the pan. You don't necessarily have to run all the oil out of an engine to experience oil starvation failures.......

I'll be glad to help haul the car to scrap once you get done with it.

If you can, keep some wheels on it so we can roll it on the trailer- we can then jack it up and take the wheels off. The only other thing you'll need to do is remove the gas tank.

Vincent, parts, not a problem. I was actually going to ask if you guys might want something off of it that was still usable. Also, since I have brand new tires and wheels on there, was going to see if the General or the Dirtmaster needed a couple of spares just in case.

Bret, the original wheels will be going back on the car for transport, so that's not a problem. Will need to get rid of them also. I'll be working on removing the gas and the tank at some point probably next weekend. Mule Days and Sanford event this weekend.

Ryan, I might take someone up on that offer. May end up getting a second car to use primarily as a daily driver and have the Subaru as a weekend warrior. I've got time to make that decision.

Cosby what size tires are on the sentra. I am looking for some better tires for the legacy. The ones on the car are three different sizes and more than half worn out so anything would be better than whats on there.
