Hey PayPal users,

I just received an email with the subject line "PayPal official notice"
telling me my account was being placed on "restricted status" until I
verified my personal information.

IT IS A SCAM - DO NOT FILL OUT THE PERSONAL INFORMATION ON THE PROVIDED WEB
FORM! THE MESSAGE WAS NOT FROM PAYPAL, AND THE WEB FORM IS ONLY SPOOFING
THE PAYPAL SITE!

I became suspicious when the URL of the form did not start with "https:",
and with the amount of personal information being requested (basically
everything). I called up PayPal and they confirmed that the message was not
from them.

So again, if you get this email, *DO NOT PROVIDE ANY INFORMATION!*

Thanks,

This is the "phisher scam". We first saw it claiming to be from e-bay. Asks for lots of stuff that it "shouldn't" which is what clued us in to it being a serious scam.

Yeah, this one asked for so much stuff it made me suspicious too. The fake site looked just like the Paypal site, though, in terms of its appearance, and even the URL in the browser's address window(?).

I mean it was asking for everything: email, password, bank account #, PIN for ATM card, Social Security #, birthdate, mother's maiden name, and on and on. The form said "all fields required". When I called up Paypal to ask, if they'd said it was for real I would have told them to go to hell... :moon:
