I know there's one in the Raleigh/Garner area (at least I think there is). Does anyone have a more certain location on that and even a name so I can check it out? Thanks.

Nine's Auto Salvage in Wake Forest. It's on Bruce Garner Rd. in Wake Forest.

Great! Thanks Joe! Any idea as to how much for a visit inside the gates? Need to make sure I have a good grocery list together before stepping inside you know.

Entrance fee? None when I was there last about a year ago. Just pull up and start walking the yard, grab your parts and head in to the office to start the bargaining.

Not a lot of newer cars at Nines though. Early 90's Honda parts are well represented though (is that good or bad? ).

There was a big one down highway 242 when I was in high school - don't know if it's still there, but it's an excuse to go for a drive, anyway. Just go across I-95 via Main St, then turn right onto 242 and you'll get there eventually. (or maybe there was a turn somewhere along the way? :? It has been a while since I was there... )

I must be thinking of different styles of "You Pull Junkyards" then. The one's that I'm use to and have dealt with long times ago involved walking in, and carrying whatever you can out for one flat price. Basically you get 2 people in and load parts onto a hood and walk out for 150 or so. :?

Cosby,

The place you are thinking of in Garner/Raleigh is probably "Cheap John's U Pull It" which is (sadly) no longer in business- it was right next to Raleigh Auto Parts (now LKQ) on Hwy 70 between Garner + Clayton.

AFAIK, there are not any true "u-pull-it" yards in the RDU area- Nine's seems to be sort of an old time yard where you can roam around and pull your own parts, but I don't know what the prices are like there or at the other places that have been mentioned. In my experience, they have been a bit on the high side.

There is a brand-spankin' new yard in Charlotte called "Pull a Part" that is exactly what (I think) you're thinking of- see www.pullapart.com - for price list and vehicle inventory. I was just down there yesterday- it's the typical U-pull-it yard where you pay $1 entry, sign a waiver and grab a wheelbarrow and head out into a yard full of cars propped up on stands. It's very well organized- in fact, you can check one of several computer terminals inside the building for specific cars + their specific location on the lot. Cars are organized into groups- FOMOCO, MOPAR, GM, Asian Imports, Euro Imports are all grouped in their own specific section, labelled by Row #.

There are also 2 great u-pull-it yards in the Richmond area- both operate on the same principle as Pull A Part, but they seem to turn over cars much more frequently- I think they usually keep a car on the yard for about 30 days before they pull + crush it and replace it with a new one. Email me if you want specifics....it's well worth the roadtrip up there- I've been trying to go every other month or so for the last year or more.

Another possibility is a place in Dudley- just south of Goldsboro, I think it's called Young's. They have 2 yards on the same property- one is your typical yard- with mostly late model stuff, and high prices + no roaming. The other one is a U-Pull-it place, they used to advertise Saturdays where it was $35 to enter the yard and you could take all the parts you could carry out, basically from one end of a large truck scale to the other. I went out there a couple of months ago to see what they had, they have thousands of cars, most sitting on the ground, most look like they've been there for a LONG time. Not sure if they're still doing the $35 deal, but I think they would probably give you a pretty good price anytime.

Anyone up for a roadtrip????!!!!! Anyone know any other good places with hidden treasures???

There is also 109 U-Pull-It in Winston-Salem that's right off the 40 bypass (south on 109, oddly enough). They've got a better selection than Nine's. The Honda section is extremely picked over, and they've got next to no Toyotas, but everything else they've got lots of--especially Nissans. They're open on Saturdays until 12.

I'll second the nomination for Pull-A-Part here in Charlotte.. for a while, I was visiting them ~once a week, and always walked away with a good deal.

Ok, well thanks for all the suggestions and help. I've looked at Young's (which also seemed to be the one that Kevin was talking about also) and Pull-A-Part and 109 U-Pull-It and Nines. Apparently a suspension setup for the 91-94 Sentra's are a popular item as there aren't any at either of those locations. :( Except for Pull-A-Part that is, they don't have their inventory listed, and I'm not so sure that I want to make that small road trip to come back with nothing. Oh well, I did find this to be interesting 4 CYL ENGINE $111.43 at Pull-A-Part. Now I just need somewhere to work on said engine if I decide to go that route.

Again, thanks for the help, looks like I got to bite the bullet and by new or remanned parts for a little higher price. Or decide to go ahead and make the trip anyway's. To many decisions. :)

Most of the CRX's at Nines, if I remember right, were first Gens. If you don't need a CRX specific part, they might have it. When I was looking, it was for a part that could be found on almost any 90-95 Honda. But, it has been a year or more since I've been there, so who knows.
