I've found a bunch of Vette owners who were more concerned about cost than anything else went with the 712s. But just for street duty daily driver stuff. I hear mixed opinions on them.

Now the MX. I'm not happy with them at all. I put some on in July. They are noisey and vibrate. Worse than the GY GSCs that come on the car. And the GSCs suck. The MX is stickier and handles pretty well. It's better in the rain than I thought it would be. The vibration on the highway is annoying and you feel it right through the steering wheel. Very annoying. I've had them balanced twice and it made no difference.

After 3 trips to L'burg I now have to rotate them inside out because I'm tearing the heck out them. That I expected autoxing on concrete. I may use them as autox tires only next year.

I replaced a set of Firestone Firehawk SZ50s with them. The SZ50s are by far the best tires on the Vette in rain and dry. The only drawback to those tires were that they felt like rocks when the temps get down to the 30's. I'll probably go back to those or the new GY F1 GS-D3.

Just repeating my real life experiences with the 712's. I know others seem to have had good luck with them. They may just work better on some types of cars. My experience with the 712's was in various FWD cars.

I spoke with a couple of my friends tonight that both own Camaros and bought the 712's. One is a 96-Z28 the other a 02-SS. Both of them complain about the same thing Kevin states and the same problem I have with the MX. There is a vibration. It happens at highway speed and it is annoying.

Wow, Steve should really change the name of his business. The name sounds like he sells hubcaps that make you sick! Sorry Tom I just had to. :lol4:

I bought the MX's from Discount Tire and they come with lifetime balance and rotation. Believe me next time I just go through Tire Rack and have Steve do them. The price I got the MX's including heat cycled was better than it would have cost me from Tire Rack...

My buddies both got their 712's from Just Tires. One of their friends works there and got them a good deal. They have the same complaint I do. So that is getting tires balanced at 2 different places.

I may buy Victoracers for autox but no more Kumho's for the street.

Take them to DT on Six Forks, and insist Tom phase balances them on the "good" machine.

Chuck,

I'll do just that and real soon. I need them pulled off the rims and swapped side to side to get the meat on the outside.

As it turns out I did buy them from Tom at the DT on Six Forks.

Thanks for the tip.

Chuck,

I got them done today. They call it Road Balance. The machine must be hidden out back. When I spoke with Tom he said they don't really advertise that machine and only use it for real problems. Well I covered that.

Anyway. There is a significant improvement in the vibration. These tires are still noisey and vibrate. Just not as bad now. At some speeds they are still bad. Fortunately I can drive around most of them. Funny that none of the weights are on the outside of the rim this time either.

When it's all said and done these are now autox tires and I will never buy them again for the street. Now I have another set of rims I'll get a tire more suited for daily driving. They do make for good autox tires.

That is the same type machine that Steve has at Hubcap Haven. I have had him balance my tires and I have to say that the car was 100 times smoother than before. I HIGHLY recommend Steve's shop to anyone needing tire work. Plus he is a club member and sponser. I'd rather give my money to someone in the "Family" than some big a$$ corporation.

I had Steve Pierce put a set of S03's on Sharon's 10AE Miata, replacing the OEM Michelin Pilots. Seem to be a little quieter, and stick like bubble-gum. I would expect about 20-25K miles out of them Max. due to the 200 treadwear rating, but at 5,000 miles a year, it's not an issue. They are also a great rain tire.

Regardless of what you buy, have Hubcap Heaven & Wheels mount & balance them. My $.03 worth... 8)
