We have earthlink cable modem, which is serviced through Time Warner. Does anyone know if I have to have basic cable service to continue to use the cable modem?

The prevailing wisdom is "no."

Several co-workers have cable modem and no cable TV. All are in TEC service areas. None are paying any penalties for their efforts.

I have Earthlink Cable Modem via TWC, but no other TWC services. Initial order was with Earthlink, then was transferred to TWC to schedule install. Bill comes from TWC.

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

Ditto Richard's deal.
We have only the cable modem. Sometimes gets a little slow in Fuquay, but generally is pretty fast.
TV is SAT.

After the phone conversation with TWC today, we are now looking at sat. services. :)

Apparently, calling, not leaving a message and cancelling the appt is standard routine for them.

The sad part is I called to just reschedule the appt for tomorrow. The kind lady on the phone decided that arguing about the appointment today was more important.

yep, mine can be finicky but never a real problem. and i stongly reccomend directv over cable tv. nfl sunday ticket rocks. still a little fuzzy on the hd package. don't believe that BS about weather interruptions. i have lost my signal for maybe 20 minutes total over the last year and a half. 10 minutes of that was during a storm last week. first time it did not come right back. cable sucks. i remember being out for hours.

Jason, i would suggest earthlink via twc. i have had exceptional service but every once in a while i get shunted to the csr's in new dehli and that can be aggravating.

Everytime it rains hard here we lose our cable.

I've had good service through earthlink as well.
