Ok, what is the best way to document the maintenance record for a car? I do perform regular maintenance, but am bad about documenting it.

Do you write it down in the manual or do you have something else you put it in? What exactly do you put down? Do you keep all receipts? How do you document work you did yourself? You get the idea of what I am looking for. :D

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

More importantly, can we convince Mike Whitney to share some of his spreadsheet templates with us??? :)

That's pretty much the same stuff I record for mine in a slightly different format. But I don't have the car loan stuff in the maintenance file, I have it in the financial file.

I have separate sheets - one keeps track of everything I've ever done (or had somebody else do), and another lists all the non-stock items currently on the car.

I also record each time I autox it, including car setup, when/where, the class and pax results, and how it wanted to be driven with the setup it had at the time.

:D

oh, yeah - receipts are kept in the envelope with the appropriate month's bank statement. that way, if I want to find a receipt, all I have to do is find the envelope from the month the receipt was generated (when the work was done, by looking in the spreadsheet).
