DAMN!!!! :x
Comin' through Madison County out there west of Asheville on I-26, the speed limit is 60. Hell, I'm coming down-hill on a fairly steep grade and just lettin' the dogs run. Distracted, I guess...

+15 over is a mandatory court appearance, unless you have an attorney handle it for you.

Anybody know a local lawyer out that way who can cover this for me?
Anybody have a similar +19 mph experience?

Did you just get the ticket?....give it like 2 days....the lawyer solicitations should be showing up anytime now...or so I have heard.

I had a 73 in a 55 in wake county. The lawyer letters came in about a week. I went to court. Waited in the check in line for 30 min. Then I waited in the DA line for 20 min. The DA said "Would you like a reduction?" I said Yes. She wrote 64 /55 on my paper work and handed it to the cashier. $100 court costs and $10 fine and I was out the door. BTW they only accept cash or money orders. 9 over should net me no insurance increase. I did not want a 18 over hovering over me with a PJC.

George is dead on. I have been to court, in my younger days, more times than I care to remember. No wreckless drivings or DUI's, just plain old 10+ mph over speeding tickets. I got out of 12 of them by having them reduced to 9 mph. This is over a 15 year span. Go to court, bring your ticket and enough cash to cover court costs and a small fine. Talk to the DA. If you haven't had a ticket in quite some time, it's 99% automatic. They just want the revenue from the court costs.

As for 9 mph over, as long as you only have 1 in a 3 year period, the insurance companies won't raise your rates.

Knock on wood, I have a clean record :) Autocross has cured my need for speed on the local stuff. - AB

Yeah I went through a period about 4 years ago where I got 6 tickets in about 12 months -- just bad luck as my driving wasn't different at all... I negotiated all of them down to 9 over at the courthouse but in retrospect should have probably gotten a lawyer for all of them as most lawyers (especially the mtn town lawyers) are really good at getting things reduced to where they _never_ show on insurance.

As far as references up there, I'll ask a friend or two who live in the area and let you know if anyone has a good ref. for you.
