I need some plain old blank white magnetic material. I could probably use about 1' long X 3' wide (doesn't have to be just that size; I don't know the roll width). Anybody got some they want to sell (cheap) or know where the best (cheapest) place to get "normal" car-letter weight is? I need something local as opposed to online as I need it in the next few days.

Thanks!

Emmie, I have purchased rolls of blank white magnetic from Michael's (the arts and crafts store) for not a lot of money in the past. The stuff was a little on the thin side though.

I have used the stuff from Michaels and it is a lot on the thin side. It did not hold up well and I now am blue taping the leading edges.

I saw some duct register covers at Lowes the other day and thought that they would work well. They were magnetic sheets, white front w/ black magnetic material, to go over the A/C vents in your house. They seemed like they would work better than the rolls at Micheal's. I think they had four sheets of about 8 1/2x11". My numbers are okay so I didn't get them, but I planned to try this next time.

I have recently used those. They like to curl up at the corners and are a PITA for anything other than a short-term solution.

I'm making things about the size of our new "dash" plaques. I'll check out the stuff at Michael's, Lowe's, & AC Moore.

Any other ideas other than regular sign shops? They're just a little pricey for this project & aren't open at times convenient for me to go there.

I recently bought some from AC Moore and they were perfect for my needs. Unlike the ones that Michael's carries, these weren't rolled up. They were also thicker (with more clingy goodness) and cheaper to boot. I think they were $7 a sheet.

I have some of the Lowe's duct cover magnets. They were $5 for 3 - 8 1/2X11" sheets. They seem too thin though. We will see this weekend.

Per the suggestions of Jim & Jim (Pastorius & Feinberg), I went by the brandy new AC Moore near Chapel Hill this afternoon. They were out of the sheets (other than those that go through a printer which are *way* too thin), so I bought a roll. It appears to be just about the same thickness as my magnetic feet that came from the sign shop. It's .030" X 24 3/8" X 48" (so the tube says). So, I believe this stuff is a winner.

Thanks folks; I'd have never thought to check the craft stores for thicker magnetic. Even the checkout guy said, "What is this? I didn't know we sold anything like this." :)

I bought two packs when one would have sufficed, and I just left the other package in the bus trailer.

This is the stuff I use - have never lost a magnetic in 3 years using it at AX.

I keep a roll of the heavy duty that I use for the numbers I make in white and royal blue. It is 24" wide and I will sell it by the foot. Emmie had I known you needed it and in that small sizes I have a lot of smaller scraps I'm hording because I hate to throw anything away. I would have given you some of them.
For other's with plastic cars info I also stock clear heavy duty static cling film.
