I have a friend here at work who is collecting old cell phones to give to Turning Point Youth & Family Counseling here in Raleigh. The folks at Turning Point are planning to refurbish the phones and give them out to abused women and children in the Raleigh area so they can use them to dial 911 if they need it.

It doesn't matter who your carrier was, all cell phones are welcomed.

If you have an old phone that is in decent operating condition, and you have some kind of charger for it, I would love to pick it up and pass it along for him. I work in downtown Raleigh and live south of Chapel Hill, and am happy to try to work out a place to meet and pick it up from you. If you can bring it to a club meeting or event (please let me know in advance), then that's even better.

Thanks for your help!

I have an old Sprint phone that I've been saving for just such a charity. I'll bring it to Sanford.

Kevin and I are both getting new phones on Friday.
We can figure out a place to meet next week and the guy at Verizon said that we can donate even if the battery needs to be replaced because they would have all kinds of batteries.

Christine- cool, thanks!

Kevin- I work in downtown Raleigh and live south of Chapel Hill. I'm usually cruising past the airport around 8:45a or 6:00-6:30p. Or I could meet you at Harrison and I-40 for lunch someday. If you're free next week, you could meet me and Joel Heywood for lunch, he'll be dropping a phone off to me then.

Thanks all!

Hey Kevin,

Real short notice I know, but I'm meeting Joel at noon today at Mama Fu's on Harrison. If you see this in time and are free, then come on out and join us.

Otherwise, you can bring it to the meeting tomorrow night or give it to someone who is.

Thanks!

If a phone doesn't have some kind of charger, it's of no use. Same goes if the battery is down to just a few hours of standby time.

Remember the goal is to provide a battered or at-risk person with a communication tool they can count on in an emergency.
