That doesn't sound like it bodes well for those of us who like other forms of racing than NASCAR.

Personally I think we need to petition Speed to come up with Speed 2. Make Speed into Nascar Nation TV and let these fools OD on round track hype. Set up Speed 2 and devote it real grass roots racing. I'm to the point I'm done with Speed. Every time I turn it on it's nascar....I'm sick of it. They even pushed back WRC rally racing from 9 to 11 just so this DeSpain guy can prattle on about whatever. I guess comercialism wins again...

I'm with you, well mostly. Actually DeSpain is pretty much multi-form. He is cycles, road racing and NASCAR. He probably has to emphasize a lot of it because it is the Nascar network :(

You are right about it getting worse and worse with new shows about Nascar, new Nascar spin-offs, shows to buy nascar stuff, ad-nauseum.

I got digital satellite mostly so I could watch Speed Channel. They used to show WRC, old rallies & other interesting racing.

Now it's "Speed" and it's all NASCAR, except when they're showing a bunch of dumbasses with personality disorders making cars that are "strictly for show." (Unique Whips) WTF do "show" cars have to do with racing?

They do still show the WRC, World Challenge races & F1, and a few other interesting racing-related shows. So it's not quite time to cancel the satellite subscription yet. But I've given up on just flipping to it and seeing something interesting; now I always just check the schedule for what I want to see. I didn't think NASCRAP was so bad before they started showing it "24/7" - I didn't watch it much (usually just road courses), but I respected what they were doing. But now I pretty much hate it. :(

I agree that there's too much NASCAR on it, but I honestly enjoy the programming. Call me crazy, but I do like and follow NASCAR, so it's not a problem for me.

The idea of Speed2 is a good one. That's where F1, WRC, and the other stuff can live. Unique Whips I find pretty funny. - AB

Crazy   I will watch NASCAR to give me something to do when I work outside, but I have gotten really tired of the continual promoting, it has really turned me off. I used to watch, now i may watch if I'm around. I wouldn't get up at 7:30 to watch it like I do F1 or 2am to watch F1 JMHO

I will throw out my stock response...

"TiVo" or some other DVR.

It doesn't solve the problem of reduced Qty of non-NASCAR shows, but it does allow you to time shift (and even find automagically) those shows that you would like to watch, but that Speed is now showing at 4AM or whenever the put the non-NASCAR stuff on.

This is basically how I handle the F1 and WRC stuff. It was recently handy with the F1 stuff as it has been bouncing back and forth between Speed and one of the major networks. I just have my TiVo record based upon keyword phrases such as "WRC", "Formula 1", etc. And it finds it regardless of what channel it is on.

I think the world is slowing moving in the direction that those who use a DVR really may not have much of an idea of where their content comes from. They just look for content and record it.

But the problems is that SOMEONE will have to show the program before you can record it. Right now, for the most part, it looks like Speed is the only game in town. And if they stop showing stuff like WRC or F1, then who will? Some people are predicting that items that are found on peer to peer networks are going to end up being directly fed into DVRs. So even if you can't get it via your local station, cable or sat, it might be on the internet somewhere and your DVR may even be able to find it.

To close this loop, the new prez for Speed has been named - Hunter Nickell.

Looks like they're targeting more NASCAR and test drive shows. but Nickell has some background in "grass roots" racing ... including being the crew chief for his son who competed in the Legends series in the Southeast.

Nickell was previously the SVP and GM for FSN South.

Please don't shoot the messenger ,,,,
