For those who also appreciate seeing cars exceeding 300 mph in a 1/4 mile,
The IHRA World Championship finals are next weekend at Rockingham dragway. details @ www.ihra.com
They will also be finishing the elimination rounds from the rained out Rockinham spring points race on Fri afternoon. My brothers, Donna and I will be there all 3 days to cheer on our good friend Mike Janis as he tries to win his second ProMod national championship in his 93 corvette replica bodied ProMod the "widowmaker". He set a new mph record (230.+ mph) two weeks ago and now holds both ends of the record. http://www.ihra.com/news/2003september/27janis.htm
There will also be jet cars including a twin jet engined 18 wheeler semi tractor making 200 mph passes, wheelstanding fire engine and school bus (!) It will DEFINITELY be an exciting weekend!

My best friend will be there too. He will be running in Quick Rod class.

I've seen Shockwave (the jet powered Peterbuilt) at an airshow, that thing is FREAKIN' FAST!!!!! It is all show AND go! I would love to see it at night when you can really see the afterburner flame shooting 50 feet out the back of the truck. Wish I could be there.

It was an outstanding! event. They resurfaced the strip for the championships which made it possibly THE best dragstrip in the country. All the pro classes were the quickest in IHRA history, with several new records established. Mike Janis won the make up eliminations for the rained out Rockingham Spring Nationals on Saturday, which jumped him into second in points for the year, and gave him a mathematical chance to take over first if Mich Stott, the points leader went out in the first round on Sunday and Mike won that event as well. Unfortunately the racing gods were not with him, as both he and Mitch won their first round but lost in the second round.
