I've seen people in my hometown (Littleton) do this behind a car when it snowed. I was too little for the skiis when that was going on (yes, it was a long time ago), but my folks would let me participate in the sled train being pulled behind a car. Hm, maybe they didn't like me as much as I thought they did. :D

we did that in the snow on our boots. We called it "hitchin'" no ropes just stood near a corner and waited for a car to slow down, ran out and grabbed the bumper. Plastic bumper covers musta ended that???

Yup. When we lived in Canada for a couple of years that's exactly what we would do. Got chased by angry drivers when 6 of us would try to hitch one car and it couldn't get moving. The driver would get out to see why and then see 6 kids running like crazy in the other direction

There was no such thing as plastic bumpers then ...
