the interior of the Saab is much nicer, both in quality and fit and finish than the Roo

I looked at the saab website & took the 360° tour of the interior - other than the ugly-ass leather seats & the ugly-ass door panels, it looks just like my WRX. Except that on the WRX, the tach is in the MIDDLE where it belongs. The interior quality on the 2005 model made a huge leap compared to the previous years. My 2.5RS is in good shape & is a pretty fun car to drive, but its body rigidity, steering (especially) & other controls feel like crap when I've been driving the WRX for a few days. Of course, when I go from the 2.5RS back to the WRX... :D

Christine's Forester XT is even better interior-wise (including heated leather), rides good, handles amazingly well, and matches the acceleration of the WRX. And it's an automatic. This is the first car that she's driven that I didn't think was a total pos compared to what I was driving at the time.

Subaru is definitely looking up lately.

Well that may explain it then, the last WRX i spent time in was an 03

Next time you get the chance take a look inside my 02 WRX and tell me what's not to like? It has the "carbon-fibre" look trim. I agree the plain grey plastic was a tad "cheap".

As for the interior, the stereo is GREAT, the seats are GREAT, the controls are well laid-out, the fit & general quality of materials is GREAT, and I can't really think of anything negative to say about it, especially considering the price.

They could have made the sunvisors a little longer. :P

ding-ding-ding! I couldn't think of that one. Definitely would be nice if they had made the little shaded area at the top of the windshield wider - leaves gaps between it & the sunvisors.

it attacks the road with quicker steering and a retuned suspension. Saab stiffened the steering-gear mounting for better feedback and response, and on the Aero, pitched the WRX’s standard rack in favor of the rally-bred STi’s

our test 9-2X pulled 0.86 g on the skidpad, superior to the WRX’s 0.82 and on par with another premium, now discontinued all-wheel-drive wagon, the Audi S6 Avant Quattro (November 2001).

Premium cars equal premium pricing. But considering the Saab is the best all-around WRX to date, not to mention it includes no-charge maintenance for two years or 24,000 miles and a longer four-year/ 50,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty, it may garner another first for Saab in the new millennium—winning one of our comparos.

Sounds nice, but I'm biased. This definately doesn't have the same tuner car appeal of the WRX sedan, but I'd definately take it over a WRX wagon.

My 2005 WRX wagon has the same rack. :D

This is just different wheels & tires.

now that would be nice... but not worth the price difference.
