I was doing some browsing for forms at the US Tax website (irs.gov) and found that some third party companies do the calculations and e-filing for you for free if you are a NC resident (state tax submission is $9.95). I thought that it worked great, especially since I had a couple of random forms this year that would have necessitated using the 1040 rather than the 1040A.

I found the website easy to use and didn't have to download any software.

^ I have used that site the past two years. Works well, quick, and you can have your refund directly deposited into your account. I got mine back in about 10 days. All of this for 10 bucks and without having to install any software.
