A shameless swipe from the Miata list today:

http://2cat.com/mechanic.html

I was tempted to post it in "Tech Talk" section, but *nobody* is that silly ....

Frank

At least he was smart enough to have redundant supports ...

At least he has a rock behind the wheel

Probably had his neighbors lift it while he installed the "jackstands"

My thoughts are why didn't he jack it up from the other side since that appears to be where he's working?

probably didnt want to have to turn it around (might not be running or drivable) and the curb is an important part of that "lift"

What IS he working on? He's got a welding torch. And that box shaped thing to the right of the torch.. that's the gas tank, right?

ever see four wheelin on tv? he probably did what those guys do to test the travel of his suspension, put up ramps on one side, slowly drove up the ramps, until his suspension ran out of travel and truck started to tip, then stoppped.. got out, put boards under it, and a chock, and removed teh ramps by tapping it out with a hammer very slowly, providing the ramps had a side you could flip down..

perhaps not the way to do it safely, but it is one way..

what i saw in the mountains once was cool..

a guy had fixed wooden ramps, like ones you see on the back of a truck giong to a dealer perhaps.. to a pair of large four sided chunks of lumber, as long as teh truck, and wide... to hold the truck on all four tires... and drove up on to it and hit the brakes, in this way, all four wheels are off the ground, and after chocking it.. it is in its natural state, so no surprises.. i thought it was cool.
