It's nearly that time again! Oct 22-24 at Rockingham Dragway (yes, where we AX.) If you've never attended a major drag race, this is the one to go to!!!! The country's top drag racers going for the gold, and the right to display the # 1 on their car all next season. Witness 300 mph passes in less than 5 sec.
Your admission ticket entitles you to enter the pit area as well as the stands so you can see the cars and talk to the drivers up close and personal. You can stand a couple feet away and watch as a pitcrew totally dissassembles and rebuilds a $200,000 top fuel engine in less than an hour between runs, and photograph paint jobs that cost more than a new street car. On Friday and Saturday starting right after dark, they have a round of qualifying for all the pro class cars (Top Fuel, Funnycar, Promod and Prostock) along with exhibition runs by wheelstanders and jet powered vehicles. It's a much bigger and more colorful extravaganza than even the Indy 500, and it's right here in our backyard!!!!
Again this year we will be there rooting for Promod #2 the "widowmaker" 63 Corvette, owned, built and driven by our good friend Mike Janis from Lancaster NY the current promod points leader. He can clinch the championship this weekend, and if he does, he will be pulling out all the stops and dumping some extra nitro in the tank at the Rock to try to up his national records for e.t. and MPH. He says he'll be going for 240 mph @ 6 sec flat, envn if he has to blow up an engine on each run to do it.

If anyone is going on Sunday, run by the Hooters on W.Forest rd. Ask a waitress for a coupon good for 15.00 off the 35.00 admission charge. There is no parking charge or charge for admission to the pits, so 20.00 is a pretty great deal for one of the best show's in drag racing. There are also 3 day ticket packages available online @ www.ihra.com

They FILL that entire grassy fenced in area on the far side above where we AX all the way to the end of the dragstrip with competitors pit spaces!
The spectator parking is the field between the road and the dragstrip as well as part of the NASCAR track parking area across the street. There will be > 1/2 BILLION dollars worth of cars and support equipment there.

If it were 1 Billion then I would believe the Ferarri F1 team. 2 Billion would mean Michael was there too.
