I flew into Miami Saturday morning around 10 o'clock to pick up my Miata. I was on the road by 11:15 in the morning. Made it back home around 11 at night.

Thanks to Brad for the tip on the Florida Turnpike as opposed to I95. Thank goodness the govenor suggested people head south or west. Little traffic heading north :)

I can not speak highly enough of XM radio. I picked up a Roady 2 for the Miata to compliment the system in the truck. If you don't have it, you are missing out on the best thing since sliced bread!!!! It was kind of strange listening to the new reports, knowing I had just passed all those towns that were getting hit.

I forgot how noisy Miatas can be when getting hit by 20-30 mph crosswinds.

I really like my XM also. It's funny, I was driving alone to Orlando last year for a business trip - I was so bored out of my mind and my finger was calloused from hitting "seek" on the radio for something interesting to listen to. I pulled off at a larger town in SC, found a Best Buy, bought a Delphi unit, called XM and had it activated. 10 minutes later I was listening to Discovery Channel Radio and life was good for te rest of the trip :)

So what's the scoop on the Miata?

Im with ya there!! I just got XM myself and it rules. If you like sports, like I do, its awesome. There are 4 dedicated sports talk channels, ACC, Big 10 and Pac 10 Channels. Like a genre of music, its on there. Like to hear political talk, its on there (both sides too).

4 stars for XM from me!

Glad to see, XM Radio is catching on with all you folks. For those who don't know, I drive over 100,000miles a year and could not stand to be with out mine. I even have the family plan, having two unit's though I am the only one here.
It's one of those thing's you just can't explain to some folks. They say, I ain't paying for Radio. I would give up my home Satelite before I would give up XM. To be fair, I hear Siris is cool too. I picked XM just because it looked like if either company was going to fail, it would not be XM at that time.
I even offer one of my portable unit's to folks just to show how Great it is. 10 out of 11 I have done this with, now own one.
Just wish I would have bought the Stock back when I told other's too. :(

Thanks,

Gotta agree with the wonders of XM. My brother had it in the Miata that I bought from him and I listened to the Comedy channel the whole way back from Tampa. That was the easiest 13 hours of driving I have ever done. Aside from having to get a new alternator in Orlando, that is. :)

It is a 1994 R package with almost 66,000 miles on it after the trip back from Miami :) It is all stock. The only downside, it does have air conditioning.

I bought the car after seeing pictures of it on eBay. I guess luck was with me, because the car was better than the pictures. I guess I love taking chances :) decided to out run a hurricane in a car I never test drove :)

So what is up for the next year? I guess it depends upon the SCCA. But the MR2 is for sale.

Since we're talking about XM, I've got a question. Is there a way for me to bring it out of one vehicle and into the other? Like can I have it in the CRX for driving around, and then come time to use the truck, put it in that?

Yes, you can move it from car to car. The Roady2 has an FM Transmitter built in, but I don't love the quality of the signal through that means. I like use the tape player adapter in the Celica, as well as an AUX output into the AUX Input on the stereo in my Protege and Civic.

There is another option too, and that's getting a converter for any sub out on your factory headunit, and that can be used as an AUX input as well.

The FM Modulator does work, it's just not crystal clear like the tape, or better yet, direct AUX connection. - AB

<-- Wonders how crowded STS2 will be next year. Wait. Is the R package eligible?

I have a built in Alpine system in the truck. I picked up the Roady 2 for the Miata and an other vehicle I find myself in. It is amazing how far XM has come in the two plus years I have had it.

I like the Alpine because it nicely integrated with very little wiring exposed. But the features and function on the Roady 2 is awesome!!! It is 10 times more user friendly than my Alpine.

Pay the extra $50 for the new Roady 2 and you will not be sorry. Right now, the truck has 2 XM receivers in it :)

Not as the rules are wrote now (It has a LSD), however, It wouldnt be out of the question to open it all LSD cars, thats why its a supplemental class right now. Either way, STS2 is gonna be the shiznitz next year!

[dream mode on] I hope they do let the LSD cars in and in turn let the NON LSD cars add one. [dream mode off/]

No wonder I am slow, know more about XM than the LSD.

If anyone is thinking of car Satelite system, take time to check out the operation as You will most likely do like the rest of us, look down at the unit to see who's plaing that song. Some of the early model's were very hard to see in any light.

I know of one friend that got a ticket for crossing a yellow line while trying to do this. Lucky, he didn't HIT the Cop. OMG

As the Other Guy's have metioned, I beleive the new Roady2 is great for this. Like most thing's in electronics, they just keep getting better.

I guess I/we should bring this up on another subject heading as there's still more info I could think of sharing.

Happy Motoring,

I doubt they will allow the LSD into STS2. They may allow the second gen MR2's in though. That is the chatter right now. If the 4-97 Miatas are moved to ES, look for STS2 to be opened up to the MR2's.

If I was going to play in STS2, I would not start with an R package. They are too rare to be tearing apart. The best bet is to start with a $3000 Miata for that.

It takes a little getting use to the manual steering :) I think the last manual steering I drove was my dad 1969 Z/28! Now there is the best car ever made.
