anyone have any information on the change in inspection practices that i heard were going into effect next year? I heard they were going to being OBD II diagnostic checks only for emissions and OBD I was not going to have to do sniff tests anymore. Anyone have any links to accurate information about this like when it will go into effect or if its even true?

Is this the answer?

http://www.ncdot.org/dmv/vehicle_servic ... ments.html

If so, tailpipe sniffing ends Dec 31, 2005.

So if my 95 OBD1 Miata fails inspection in November for emissions, I can get it retested later and have it pass???

or part of the answer.. in talking to someone it was noted that the dec 31st date there could be "renewed" by the county. I guess the real answer I'm looking for is something that states that NC is phasing out sniff testing all together by that date and going only to OBDII checks..

The word I get as an licensed inspector is that Jan 1 2006 everything will be OBD II or safety. For safety you emissions equipment has to be in place and not appear to be tampered with. :D

From the book

Vehicles to be Exhaust Emission Tested Effective Jan 1, 2002 through December 31, 2005

* Jan, 1 2002 inspect 1976 model year vehicles up to 1995
* Jan, 1 2003 inspect 1977 model year vehicles up to 1995
* Jan, 1 2004 inspect 1978 model year vehicles up to 1995
* Jan, 1 2005 inspect 1979 model year vehicles up to 1995

George is on the money. 2006, no more sniffer...OBDII for "emissions", and everyone else gets just a safety inspection. Oh, but the EPA and the DMV just LOVE to change their minds and screw everyone over in the process... :roll:

I work for Ever-Ready Mobile Glass service. We are at 500 Nowell Rd. We are between Hillsboro St and Chapell Hill Rd just up the hill from Kenny Hawkins. We do inspections by appointment only because my main job is mobile glass installation. Yo can call 851-0721 to set up a time.

Right now the inspection bay is tied up putting a windshield in the Booze it or Loose it bus #4. BTW I have driven it. I guess Mike Whitney cannot say he has ever driven the DUI bus. :D

George, As I recall you were one of the organizers (or culprits) of the 1989 MADD autocross at the fairgrounds. That was my first opportunity to autocross, and IMHO, the way to do it. $15 for six runs and the club provided the brand new Mustang GT converitibles....
For a couple of weeks, I thought you were a great guy, but then you voted against me joining the club.

Hey George, do THSCC members get a break there? I just picked up another car and it needs a windshield. 90 CRX Si.

To bring this on topic - I need the windshield so I will pass inspection...

I do not have control over pricing. If you want the cheapest price you should check Glass Doctor or other cut rate outfits. We still do quality work with OEM quality glass.

Art the DAMM buttons made their debut at that Auto-X. Maybe that is why we never did any other events for them. That and MADD's being wound a little too tight about the event. I remember someone freaking out about the first runs starting 5 min. late. :D :angeldevil:

OK, I'll ask, for those of us who weren't there in '89, what are the DAMM buttons?
