Went home at lunch to find that somebody decided to put a nice crease in the driver's side rear quarter panel. I called Morrisville PD and filled out a report, and I'm wondering what the next step should be (other than to check out if there are any white cars with Montego Blue paint on their bumpers).

Thanks in advance

We got hit once in a K-Mart parking lot. Creep was long gone. Insurance company and Raleigh Police said that basically there was nothing that could be done with no witnesses and no idea of who did it. All we had was the hub cap off of a Ford Explorer Limited (A Pearl White special edition at that time). I still get "upset" whenever I see one of those in North Raleigh. :( Since there are a LOT of white cars/trucks I hope you don't have the same reaction to . . . :!:

Me... in front of my house in the parking lane at 1:50 in the afternoon, while I was in it (the house, not the car). Filed a police report, called my insurance company.

Based on the paint color and location of the damage, whatever hit me was short and very green. We also found a piece of a side-mirror cover.

In the spirit of "dumb crooks", the guy was stupid enough to drive back by several hours later (slowing WAY down to check out the damage on my truck). Green Focus, damaged on the right front. My neighbor got the license number. Yay.

On about my 3rd call with USAA, they looked up to see who covered that car. Surprisingly, it was them. So the agent looked to see if the guy had put in a claim for damage. Guess what... he did, for a accident at 6PM the same day my car was hit (and not far from my house). Except it was a 3 car accident, and he'd been DWI, and he was only 19. Hum. I told them that even if he wasn't the one to hit me car, I could positively state that he had damage to his front right prior to the 6PM DWI accident.

Dumbass. :stick:

USAA waived my deductible. :woo:

Needless to say, I don't park my vehicles in the street anymore for very long. (It's a pretty busy road.)

Good Luck!

I was in Myrtle Beach for labor day weekend. While I was out picking up some things at the local Bi-Lo I saw someone in a brand new cadillac smack another parked car and then drive away. I was the only one around. Being the victim of one of these situations before I quickly memorized the plate of both cars. Called the Myrtle beach police and reported it. I don't know if they ever did anything about it (probably didn't unless the victim noticed it), but I hope someone would do the same if they were in my shoes.

Hope someone reports it Wes.

If y'all need me tonight, I'll be walking around my parking lot with a sixer and a Maglight.

No, I'd rather someone have to hire a lawyer and deal with insurance company bullshit. All that they had to do was to leave a note, but oh no. Can't do that. What do they think, I'm not going to notice? Somebody screwed with the wrong honkie.

Wes, we need more closeups of the dent to help with the detective work. Do you think that was a painted bumper? It's pretty high. Probably a newer truck or SUV? And what's up with the multiple stripes/scratches? A moulded bumper with reliefs?

What about security cameras? Where I work they won't just give you the tapes, but they will give them to the Sheriffs Dept. If so, you might offer to watch them yourself and put together a list of potential suspects for the cops (and yourself) to investigate.

Nearly the same thing happened to me a number of years ago at a gas station. Went inside to pay/buy candy bar or something, came out and someone had pulled into the spot next to me (was gone by then) and had put a nice dent in driver rear quarter panel. No witneses, etc. I ended up not turning it into insurance.

Sorry Wes. Hope you catch whoever did it.

When I first saw the thread title, my first reaction was to post...

"Haven't caught me yet!". ;)

Dropped by Dentmasters in Cary today, got a $280 quote, but they said since there is a crease, they can't guarantee that it'll look perfectly straight, it'll probably have some waves to it. Ain't that peachy. Anyway, I wandered around the lot last night with a flashlight and didn't see anything amiss, so I'm off to leave notes on neighbor's doors.

Mike: The height of the stripes is above my knee, so by walking around and checking bumper heights I agree that it's probably a pickup or SUV with some sort of striped body cladding. Chevy?

Don't forget to search the other lots nearby and also do another search in a month or so. The person knows you will be looking for them, so they won't park in the same lot as you.

When you go knocking on doors, you might want to ask what vehicles belong to the people at each apartment. Write down an inventory and if anyone mentions a vehicle that isn't in the parking lot then go back later to question them about where it is. This will also help if you see one of the people driving a vehicle sometime in the future that isn't on your list because that alone would arouse suspicion.
