110/100 with carbonized plugs and crappy wires resulting in bad detonation issues at WOT. According to the dyno guy, I need to clean the intake manifold, change the plugs and wires and drive the everliving (crap) out of the car.

What is the average loss between the crank and the wheels?

For a front drive car (or mid engine MR2) it is typically about 15%.

Best guess power loss to dyno

WHP = CHP*.90 - 10 for FWD
WHP = CHP*.88 - 10 for RWD

I thought there was a pretty accurate way to calculate driveline loss on the dyno from coastdown measurements. Am I wrong?

My Cougar was off the scale (literaly. the scale only went down to 10:1) for being pig-rich. I was pumping more raw fuel through the pipes than anything else, methinks. Speaking of pipes, I've still got 2" exhaust and off the shelf turbo mufflers on the beast. I'm going to see about some 2.5" pipes from Flowmaster and jet my carb down a few sizes and come on back. I may yet beat Shawn's HP numbers...

Gad he made a lot of torque. "We're not worthy" We're not worthy".

The 5.0 guys have pretty well established that the Fords with their 5 speeds loose 12-15% HP in the driveline. Different cars loose different ammounts. I think you might be able to calculate driveline loss by measuring the ammount of heat given off by the drivetrain.

Some crank dyno shops use open headers and even different intake systems when searching for the engine's highest output. This can skew results on a chassis dyno from measured crank horsepower quite a bit.

Thanks again for a fab dyno day. I had a blast!

I'm gonna have to get a new sticker. :D

I've talked to a few people since getting that number and they think the truck may be chipped already. I'm gonna go through the records and see if I can track down the original owner and ask him if he did anything to it.

On the other hand I was disappointed with the Type arrr's numbers. I'll have to try the new plugs and wires deal. The plugs are a year old but without many miles on them, the wires are original.

Just drop the diesel in the Type Arrgh. If you put it in transverse, you might need to remove the hood and fenders to make it fit with the transmission.

With 555 ft-lb, though, the first time you launch at a ProSolo, I bet you would rip the entire front clip off of the car and the motor and front wheels would accelerate away leaving you and the rest of the car at the start line.

Yeah I feel pretty good with the 3rd best numbers. Being that the 2 that beat me had both twice the clyinders and more than twice the displacement.

As a note my ECU lets me play with boost and I made a run with it set back to stock and got 168hp 169ftlbs. So the money was well sepnt on the upgrade, +15hp and +62ftlbs, all from less than $500 :shock:

Now how much did you spend on your ECU Aaron? For what +6hp and +3ftlbs :P

that wasn't very nice, and it's not true. Aaron was already at about 169 hp with just an intake and exhaust. He actually only made about 2 peak hp with the ECU.

Since his mods aren't making the car any faster, does that mean he's really outdriving all of us?

I got to blame it on the mods before, now I'm almost out of excuses!
