So we've got my garage open yesterday since we were using some stuff out of it in the course of laying down some tile.

I walk by my yellow car, and the driver's front wheel has drips on it. Further inspection reveals yellow fluid (Motul?) on my caliper, brake line, and on my wheel. Well sh!t. I've lost something in the brake 1 week before the next race. (Where's Karl?) I jack the car up, take the wheel off, and dry things up a bit in hopes of seeing where the leak is.

A while later, we've finished the tiling project and go back to the car. Caliper is still dry. I press on the brake, still no leak.

Eh?

Jason says "Are you sure it's brake fluid? It smells like pee."

*sigh*

At least the brakes are fine.

The important question, what are you using to tile your garage floor?

Diane,
Do you have Konis on the car? I know that they have yellow fluid. - AB

Tom: The Motul in my bottles has a slight yellow color to it.

Aaron: I thought of that and checked. Shock is dry, as is the caliper (once I wiped it off).

I plan to check it again tonight (after having the garage door closed since yesterday) to be absolutely sure it's not leaking anything.

Brake leaks do not self heal . . . for long. Brake fluid generally does not evaporate. Some antifreeze looks yellow. The unidentified fluid came from somewhere, possibly during the last bleeding or other service or from a small climbing animal. How is the fluid level in the master cylinder?

Did you park next to a VW? I've seen them lift a hind leg from time to time ...

This fluid dried, and didn't take the paint off my wheels. Master Cylinder fluid level normal. Conclusion, it never was brakes. :) Antifreeze? Didn't smell like it. Dunno how it could have gotten on the outside of the wheel if it was. I don't think antizreeze runs anywhere near the caliper anyway.

I'm glad now that I didn't taste it. Yuck!

Sorry gang... not tiling the garage... tiling the side entryway of my house. It looks great. Lots better than the crappy carpet we pulled up. There were tools in the garage we needed, thus the door was open.

With any luck some dog has claimed your car. But just try to get a car payment out of him. Was there much yellow snow around your house this winter? :beerbuds:
