Today I went by work to pick up something. When I inserted my key in the ignition switch it did not want to go all the way in. I wiggled and shook and jiggled the key. After I sprayed some lube into the lock the key went in but a little stiff. There has never been a problem before this time. I have tried all three keys to the car and none of them will turn in the ignition. In order to remove the lock cylinder I need to get it to turn so I can press the release. Any suggestions? :?:

This is my Focus. The keys are not worn out and they all work fine in all the other locks on the car. Also the steering column lock is not bound up so that is not the problem.

I have spoken to several locksmiths and the going price for replacing the lock cylinder with a new one keyed to my existing keys is $200. :furious:Ouch!!!

Junkyards, they are your friends. Almost every car I have seen in a yard has the keys in it somewhere.

I thought about a junkyard but I still have to get the column apart ie drill the lock out and then I still have to deal with the passive chip in the key. I would also venture to say that a set of well used locks from a junkyard would cost me more than the $200 to fix the problem with my existing keys.

George,

I assume you did an internet search and noticed that Foci are noted for this problem. :(

I could say something about the junkyards being full of VWs but I won't.
