Hopefully, I will be selling my mirage to an out-of-stater tomorrow. Are there any pitfalls that I need to watch out for? Does the title have to be notorized?

Yes. The title has to be notarized.

On the back of the title in section A, fill in the buyer's name and address, take the title, registration and buyer to the DMV, they will witness and notarize your signature and with proof of identity and insurance will issue the buyer a temporary tag to use while transporting the car. By the way the state DMV office told me that they must have an insurance company that is recognized in NC! Or...

If the buyer isn't coming here, you can have your title signing notarized and give it to the buyer to obtain a tag in their state. Or...

Call 715-7000 and they'll walk you through all of it.

Just went through all of this myself. :D Good Luck.

Jason,

I've sold two cars on Saturday/Sunday to out of town buyers. Carmax (less than 3 miles from our house) was very willing to do the notary part. At little or no charge. You might check with a car dealer near you since notaries may be hard to find on holiday weekends since even the "we are open Saturday mornings" banks may be closed.

Mail Boxes Etc. also has a notary for $3.50 or so. Just call ahead and make sure that the notary will be in when you are coming.

Also, make sure you go to the NC DMV website and print the Damage Disclosure form. Depending on the age of the car, this might not be necessary, but you'll want to check before the buyer comes to pick it up.

I'm "trying" to get out of the car, but it's fighting all of the way. Long story, I'll tell more when I'm not so tired.

One of the local DMV offices is open on Saturday AM, I think maybe in Durham. The DMV notary was 5.00 and they had the form too. Hope it works out.

For those who are interested.

I sold the mirage yesterday. Some guy flew from Arkansas and is driving it back home.

The car hasn't been driven in the past 3 months and the night before he's supposed to come, I get it running and test drive it. It was making some very bad noises, one of which was a careless mistake on my part. Working on a car at midnight leads to those. The other noise was either a hub bearing or CV joint, and he decided that it wasn't bad enough to not try to drive it for 12-14hrs.

Congrats on the sale but.... are Mirages that hard to come by that he had to fly from Arkansas to get one. Or did he just like the way you had yours set up?

There were only 1600 of the turbo models shipped over. Some of those went to Canada.
