Hey guys,
I am having a problem with my main computer. When I start IE 6 I get an error message:
"Explorer has caused an error in <unknown> Explorer will now close"

I am running Windows ME, IE 6.0 and MacAfee virus scan.
I have run virus scans and found an infected file in IE temp folder. I got rid of this and then uninstalled and reinstalled IE 6.

Still the same error. :user:

Any Ideas?

George,

When did this start? I downloaded McAfee Dat version 4367 this evening into a Win 98 computer running McAfee 5.21. It locked up the computer at the Windows 98 screen during startup and has given a variety of error messages after I did selective starting and disabled McAfee. None of the error messages are the same as yours. I get "invalid page fault in module MCSCAN32.DLL at 015f:12014c32" whenever I try to open the McAfee console after getting the computer booted. I'm "assuming" that something in the DAT update is the problem for us and maybe it is for you. Note that the same update into a Win XP computer with McAfee 8.0 is fine. Since we don't want to send McAfee more money for a new version I'm hoping they issue a new DAT version that somehow corrects whatever today's did. :(

Dick,
I am using version 7. something of virus scan. I also noticed that my windows media player is also dead in the water. This might be the problem. I also have tried disabling MacAfee because I have had problems in the past with Explorer (not Iternet Explorer) crashing while I was surfing the web.

Update:
Using scanreg /restore to restore a previous version of registry file has brought IE 6 back from the dead. I am now running Adaware and Virus checks. Fingers crossed. Hopefully I don't have to Reinstall OS from scratch. :woo:
