Unfortunately I post this morning with the news that Brad Mackey passed away last night. As some of you know, he had been battling with cancer for the last few years and it all came to a head late in 2016. He was in and out of the hospital from October through December, but spent the last couple months resting mostly peacefully at home. For those that never met him, Brad was a competitive CSP autocrosser for a number of years with us before he started helping out Mark Vitacco with the HPDE program and eventually took over managing it. He was a great asset to the club and will be sorely missed. Keep his family in your thoughts this weekend as you spend time with yours. R.I.P. Brad.

Update with service information.

The celebration for Brad will be held on Friday, April 28 at 1PM at the American Legion in Fuquay Varina. Address below. In lieu of flowers, the Mackey's ask that donations be made to Transition Life Care (formerly Hospice of Wake County).

American Legion Post 116
6400 Johnson Pond Rd,
Fuquay Varina, NC 27526

This is sad. I wish I would have had a chance to say goodbye.

Sad News. I competed with and against Brad frequently not often successfully but always fun and competitive. May he miss all the cones for eternity.

I ran against Brad in many classes over my early THSCC years. He had a great heart and really loved people. He would travel to Charlotte a lot after I moved from the Triangle in 2004. He'd look me up to have a beer.

While Stephen and others got me into the track program, Brad was always pushing me to join. I should have done it earlier looking back. I will miss seeing him, even as infrequently as it has been in over the last few years. RIP. - AB

It grieve's me hear of this. Brad was a man of sterling character, good heart, and always a friend to everyone. He was a giver and a doer to the Tarheel Sports Car Club . I'll miss him
Brad--- May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand

We were stunned to get Art's email with this info! We hadn't seen Brad (or the majority of other THSCCers) in a long time, but we'll never forget what fun times those were; and I'll forever remember all the laughs with Brad *and* Sharon both during and after autoXs. A nice, nice man who did much for this club.

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

This is so sad to read. Brad and I were competitors in CSP in the early 2000's. I was in college at the time and I remember walking the course with him and gleaning his wisdom on both driving and life in general. He was soft spoken and encouraging and I looked up to him.

I am glad I got to visit with him more recently at club meetings, even though that was a couple of years back. I wish I had the opportunity to see him again and express what he meant to me.

I saw Brad last year at one of the Cary autocrosses. He and Sharon ate lunch with me in the food court, and true to his nature, he minimized his condition when I asked him how he was doing. Another of our THSCC giants we have lost.

Sad news.

Brad was probably the first Tarheel member to try to help me with autoX. I was walking the course alone at Laurinburg and he basically gave me the "come here young man, I will explain this to you" treatment. He was a good guy, he will be missed.

Seeing Brad at the track was always a good time; definitely a genuine and great guy to be around.

Wow, I'm shocked to hear the news about Brad. Just saw a post on FB and went on here to see if it was true.
Will miss him. He was a great guy, friendly and a great competitor. I always enjoyed talking with him about miatas at autox events.

:(
