I was browsing the Autoweek coverage of the Detroit Auto show, and this jumped out at me. An interior shot of the upcoming Kia Stinger (how long before Fiat sues them over the name?) shows three pedals. The largest one is to the left. Is that the one that makes it go?

Why in the world would they offer that in a diesel option? I know it's europe and they love their diesels for some reason (even though they're choking them out), but i'm going to guess this won't compete with a 335d.

That "3rd pedal" looks like a dead pedal to me.

Large dead pedal on left. Accelerator pedal is mostly hidden on right.

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

I must be the only person on the planet that has no use for a dead pedal.

I love dead pedals. I've been disappointed the Fiesta and Focus don't really have one. The Focus has a flat spot for one, guess I could find a ST one. The Fiesta doesn't have one at all, so you wind up resting your foot on the wheel well on the carpet.

Kind of like when I'm sitting in a chair at work, all day long, 5 days per week, and somehow I manage to rest my foot on the floor just fine with no dead pedal.

It just bugs me to be resting my foot on the carpet since I know it's likely it will eventually result in a hole being worn through it.

This. I even put the dead pedal back into the S after I stripped the carpets and remaining interior.

Folks, it just struck me as odd that the most prominent thing in the footwell was something that does nothing at all. I guess they're just getting us ready for the day when they take the other pedals away. And the big round hoop sticking out in front of those weird glowing dials. What's that for?

Sure you do, it gives Remchak one less thing to complain about.

I dunno, but it's just possible we aren't all built the same.

I've killed two dead pedals.

My second Type R's dead pedal broke off and my FR-S's pedal is broken/loose. Too much G-force on the right hand sweepers. Or just driving too tense probably.

I put the dead pedal back in my PTE car. It's pretty much the only comfort item in the car.
