Just trying to save some coins, so decided the manual labor route.... I knew I was going over my septic lines, so the last thing I wanted was a power trencher. I found the lines and didn't go as deep once I hit the rocky drain field. Everything is still in good working order...

Wow, you have elevated (or lowered?) the level of cheap Rodney. When I built my lean-to, I was pretty close to renting an auger just to dig THREE 24" deep holes. Yep, I'm one lazy bastard, but I ain't a cheap one!

Happy! The electrician is here dropping the wire in place. I made a few changes and trying to be forward thinking, so costs went up a bit, but in the end I think it will be worth it. At the last minute I decided it might be nice to have some AC during the summer, so having an extra outlet setup for a small window AC unit.

The electrician came over last night and knocked out a bunch of the wiring. I was also able to back fill most of the ditch. Funny, you never have enough dirt to fill the hole you dug. Learned back when I was doing cut and fill calcs, that you generally need another 25% to complete the fill. Looks like I'll need a trip to Lowes for some cheap top soil to complete filling the ditch unless someone on here has some dirt I can use... You can see my tamping 4x4 post. I can tell you know that thing gets exponentially heavier as you use it. Arms and wrists are sore as crap today.

Just a few more hours of work and I'll have powah!!

Little by little making headway on the new project. Power is now installed. Picked up some nice over head lights from my neighbor, need to get those installed after the insulation and paneling go up. Putting the roof insulation up isn't the easiest thing I've done, tough to control that 2ft wide strip of insulation and staple at the same time. Also started transferring the good stuff from the old shed to the new one. Once all the crap is out, need to start breaking down the old shed for shelves in the new building. Also buttoned up the trench. What a pain. It was easier to dig than to fill.

Image

The black stuff is some cheap top soil I had to use to finish filling the trench. Glad that part is done.

Looking good. You move fast!

What size circuit/service did you end up running out there?

Nice Rodney Looks good. You will have a much nicer shop so we expect next year's foot to be really special. :-)

Just needed some basic power in the shop, so I ran two 20amp circuits out there. 1 for lights, fans and heat/AC and 1 for the tools.

Headway continues. I took this week off to try and wrap up stuff on the inside I needed to complete so I could start breaking down the old shed. All of the ceiling insulation is up, what a PITA. I think what's worse is the ceiling paneling. Not so easy to do this by yourself, but I think I have this one figured out. I picked up crappy seconds paneling from builders discount in Wendell. Pretty cool place. You get to drive your car/truck into the building and load supplies directly from storage to your trailer. Beats having to wheel stuff out on carts and handle it twice.

Image

I position these angled stops about a 1/4" down from the top edge of the wall. These help keep the panels in place and also helps to keep the panels from bending in the middle.

Image

That bar over the 10ft ladder also supports the paneling. What I do is lift the panel up on the ladder and then let it drape over the horizontal support. Then I take the panel and slide it over the 2 angled stops. From there is positioning myself on the ladder with my head bumping the panel to keep it flat on the roof joist. A serious juggling act holding the panel in place with your head and trying to nail in the panel nails, but it's working, albeit very slow. Only 5 more full panels to go and then I need to cut some short sections for the top.

I'm sure someone here would be willing to lend an hand if you asked. I have a pneumatic brad gun that would make attaching the paneling a snap too.

If someone was willing to take a week of vacation to help out, I'd be more than happy to provide beer and pizza, but I'm trying to get done what I can for now.

Yeah, that's a tough sell during the week. No way I'd burn my vacation time, even on my own home improvement projects. I save all my vacation for racing, and all that was used up two months ago.
