Yeah, looks just like any ol in wall electric heater. I would imagine you could find something similar at Lowes, Home depot or online.

Back at it again this weekend, but the rains did slow me down some. I was at a stopping point on the new workshop until I took down the old shed so I could re-purpose some of the wood for shelves. Had to cut down some old shrubs to get access to the building. Started by removing the shingles...

Image

Image

Next, started striping of the siding. Funny looking at all the old painting on the siding where Drew and Jordan had painted it. The old siding will still be used as siding for the inside on one wall. That will now be outward facing in the workshop. The old plywood will be used for shelving.

Image

Image

After that, started knocking down walls and separating the 2x4s as those will become shelving supports.

Image

Here I have the 2x4s waiting to be de-nailed. I did get a nice surprise when working on these. I had some 2x4s nailed together for support around the door. Split those and dumped about 10000 black ants on the floor. I freaked.... Ran to the garage and got my vacuum cleaner and sucked them up. Fortunately they were very slow with it being cold out today. Once I wrapped up, I set off a bomb and locked it up for night. I'm hoping I got most of them....

Image

At least now I'm at a point where I can start building the shelves and getting all of the stuff from the old shed stored. Glad this part is over....

Not to be one-uped by Jordan =), I've made some progress as well. With the old building down, time to make some shelves. These aren't pretty by any means, but save for the 2 vertical 2x4s, everything is recycled from the old shed. A lot of these old 2x4s have writing on them from when the shed was a play house for Drew and Jordan, so I've oriented as much of that outward facing as I can just for fun.

Image

I've also picked up an old shopsmith that my moms late husband had. This a 1958 vintage and I'm hoping it still works. This thing will plane, horizontal bore, saw, sand and a few other things as well. Huge bonus is that I have all the instruction manuals with this...

Image

Also started on my interior siding. I picked up a bunch of pallets from Anders over in Durham. Gotta say taking these things apart is no easy task. The nails are either cement coated or have barbs on them to keep them from backing out. I need to start disassembly on more of these, but you can see how the wall will look. Nice thing about this is I can screw directly into them to be able to hang tools. This pic is where the wood bin will go. Need to get this completed so I can organize all the wood stock I have lying everywhere. Afterwards, I can finish up the walls and then start clearing out the garage hopefully by early spring.

Looking good, when are you going to build the addition?

I like the shelves, but may end up going with steel units they sell at Costco. I want to insulate and drywall, but would like to be able to store items before then, steel shelves will be easy to move away from the wall when the time comes.

I got a set of rolling metal shelves at Northern Tool. They are 4 shelf and I got them on sale for about $70. they are very sturdy and I can move them as needed vs fixed shelving.

I like the sound of that. Any chance you could post a link, I didn't see them on the website.

Did some additional work to the shop this weekend considering how nice out it was. Just about done with my 2nd set of storage, just have to install the flooring and I'm good to go on that. This weekend my focus was adding an awning and a screen door. The awning was a kit from amazon, thought it was pretty unique looking, so I decided to give it a try since it was only 68 bucks. Bit of a pain to install, but I think it gave the building a bit of pop.

Next was the screen. Again, amazon to the rescue. This thing was $9 and some of the best money I've spent. It's one of those magnetic things and it's perfect for what I need. Installs w/ some heavy duty velcro.

I still have a ton of pallets to break down, but the walls are shaping up nicely. My next major hurdle is to install a window, so still trying to figure that one out and make sure I build my headers right. Pretty happy the way this is coming together....

I used the casters so I can roll them around easily. They seem pretty sturdy. I have brake rotors and pads on a shelf, oil, etc.

Hey we are going to have a generator so we now have to have an awning to complete the set

Generator and awning jokes aside, more work continues on the work shop. First, a shout out to the Fuquay re-store. I was in need of a window since my 4ft sq window I've been saving was rotting from storm damage years ago. Went to the re-store and they had exactly what I was looking for. A flush mount double hung window with a swing out bottom glass for easy cleaning and a screen. It also has some safety tabs to only open the window about 6". Needs paint, but for $50 it was a good score. This is also vinyl, so no rotting....

Image

Finishing the inside walls has become a labor of hate instead of love, but I'm liking the end product. Happy to say all that most finish on the inside of the work shop is either left over crap or pallet boards. I did have to purchase the white wainscoting, but I think it compliments the pallet boards. I like the randomness of the pallet texture and widths. This isn't as pretty as Rob's nice and shiny garage drywall, but it works for me.

Image

That's also a better shot of the screen. Stupid thing works pretty well.
