That's a duvet, it's fairly par for the course in Europe. The cover is removable for washing.

why do you know that? is it essential to your survival, in the hunter-gatherer sense of the word?

Just arrived at the North Sea and at St. Peter Ording. Made reservations 2 months ago and glad we did, there are no extra rooms here. No AC in the hotel room which sucks. No way to keep the door open to get a breeze in the evening. Poor planning if you ask me, but we'll make due. Time to go out and survey the land....

Oh, BTW, Hamburg sucks in regard to traffic, damn near grid locked. Worst crap I've ever driven thru! I was digging the autobahn, hitting 180kmh as traffic allowed. The Mondeo handled the speed with no issues and torque to spare. I'm ok with this car so far...

I see I'm way behind in posting here. In brief, we made it back to Berlin with a little rain following us, fortunately not a big down pour, but it did back up traffic some.

A day layover in Berlin and then we headed off to Munich. Nice drive down. I have to say it's pretty cool to drive past a police van at 170kph, a slight sense of satisfaction doing that. Hotel is nice and is of the "modern architecture" style. We are not near the town center, or Marineplatz, so I have to say I'm now well versed in taking the U6 over to the center. Have to say the stations are exceptionally clean, but rush hours times are insane. Train are standing room only and hot.

Decided to head over to the city center last night for diner and I was blown away at the shear amount of people just out having a good time. Bands were playing some American rock, street performers and outside eating. On a side note, Pam and I had the misfortune of finding some very rude vendors. Makes little sense to me why you want to piss off your customers.

Made the BMW Welt as well. Also took in the factory tour and museum. It's very nice, but I have to say the Porsche museum is much nicer. I have a ton of pics I need to post, so once back to Berlin, I'll be able to update.

We took a bus tour of the city to take in the local sights. One of the stops was the "english gardens". This wasn't what I expected. Huge expanse of land with a river running in the middle. Very picturesque. People were floating down the river. Now this was at ~4 in the afternoon and every demographic was out there hanging out enjoying the weather. There's actually a section of the river where you can surf, but it was too far to walk to. I was wondering why I saw folks on bikes with the short boards.

Coming back to the hotel last night I started to get a twinge in my lower back and unfortunately it was a familiar feeling. We had to extend our stay down here in Munich by a day due to a kidney stone, there was no way I could drive back to Berlin today. Never in my life have I experienced this type of pain. On my knees and doubled over. In a word, this sucks. I just hope this doesn't flair up on the flight back....

Ok, I'm done with buses and trains, I want to drive my mustang! There is just no freaking parking in Berlin. I miss being able to drive where I want to go and on my schedule. On top of all that, in a freaking heat wave here in Berlin, just my luck. So much for beating the heat. Coming home on Wed. Can't wait to get home to my home and my bed.

I agree with you parking is crazy in Europe. When there last June we used the train/tramway/subway a lot.
In Venice we stay on the main land close to a train station, in Florence we park across the street of a tramway station, that was perfect.
In Paris I didn’t bother keeping the car. We drove to the hotel that was near Montparnasse a major station, unload the car and drove straight to Avis at the station.
We walk and used the subway, we took a shuttle for the airport when it was time to come back.
That was really the best to visit Paris, walking in town I was thinking man I’m happy to not have to find a parking spot here.

Wherever we have been in Europe proper I would much rather walk and use trains/subway/ubahn/bus whatever. Driving is a pain not only because of the unfamiliarity with driving "styles" but just simply because public transport is convenient and reasonably cheap. We took trains and ferries, and subways all over Italy.

Germany is OK but except for some open autobahns you hear a lot of "STAHL, STAHL"

Unless hockey is being played on the Autobahn, the term is "Stau"!
