I was involved in a hit-n-run over the weekend. Short story is while on I40 in Greensboro in stopped traffic, someone (drunk, high, idiot, all of the above?) was squeezing between the far left lane and the concrete divider and hit me as he went past. He didn't even slow and kept driving. Contact was bumper to bumper and damage to me is relatively minor. I got a partial plate number (older hoopty from New York), but I suspect it's unlikely anything will come of it.

Question...

Is there any downside to doing a claim on this? I assume it goes to uninsured motorist or something like that. I don't have accident report yet, but I am faultless.

Richard

Money can't buy happiness, but somehow it's more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than a Kia.

Most companies will not consider that an uninsured motorist claim as it can't be verified they were uninsured. It goes under your collision coverage so you have to incur your deductible. Downside-sometimes companies have a claims free discount which goes away if there is any kind of claim. Other than that shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks Cline. I did find the accident report online this morning, but it is short of details as with an "investigation is ongoing" description. I will give it a few days to see if the report gets updated and then file a claim.

At the time of the accident I was sure multiple cars had been hit, but traffic started to move within a minute of it happening and everyone just drove off.
