I was watching the spec miata races this weekend on HDNet, and looks like Tom Long from Raleigh is kicking some butt this year. He won the Saturday lime rock race and is sitting 3rd in national pro spec miata points

I was wondering if anyone knew him or "of him". He should join THSCC and let me drive his Spec Miata

Tom,

Yeah, I know a kid named Tom Long. Same guy, maybe, who finished third at the Runoffs last year in Showroom Stock C? ;-)

Tom's pretty cool, very talented - he's even run a few races in a Formula Mazda open-wheeler. In fact, was running in the top ten at the FM race up in DC last year (support race for Trans-Am, et al) until a crash in the last couple of laps.

Actually, his whole family is pretty cool. Papa Glenn is a decent driver himself, mom Alanna is the glue that keeps the team together, and brother Chris is Tom's crew chief, an engineering student at UNCC, and owner of a very-nicely restored Cosworth Vega.

If you would come to a THSCC driving school, you could have Tom Long as an instructor. He instructed at the South Course school earlier this year. Tom, Glenn, and the rest of the team regularly paddock with the Radical and I at the races we attend in common. Great guys.

Glenn has been doing schools for a long time, and has also instructed with THSCC in the past. I think Chris even signed up to run the Feb school last year.

Tom has even graced THSCC with a presence at the Night Series a time or two last year.

Shame on you for not knowing......

-Matt

PS - Oh yeah, 3rd at the runoffs in SSC isn't so bad, either.

I've met Tom and Reid Allred knows him pretty well. He was working for Velocity Motorsports (and may still be) which is where I bought my Spec Miata (and is where Reid used to work before I hired him). For those that don't know Reid he was co-driving my STi at the last Sanford event (bastard beat me, too...he's lucky to have a job still!).

FWIW, Rod McGeorge is buying a Spec Miata right now, too. Tom, get with the program!

And BTW, there aren't many good opps to drive a Spec Miata that don't require a license. Go get yours! :-P Then some of these friends you have with SM's may let you drive theirs. Or, well, not.

Yeah, Tom's a great guy, and his family is terrific too. Both he and his brother go to school here at UNCC, but "hail" from Raleigh. This year he's running Pro-Spec Miata, SSC in his Civic SI, AND Formula Mazda! Busy fella, and extremely talented.

..Oh yeah, he's my roommate too
